"Fixed" my first PSP!

The other day when I was at a gathering, my friend gave me his "broken" PlayStation Portable because he had no reason to use it anymore. The remnants of the PSP was the console itself, the battery hatch, and an inflated battery pack. To his testimony, it was in his closet and some other things dropped upon it, with the battery pack eventually expanding out of the plastic shell. As a sanitary caution, he handed the battery parts within a plastic bag, which showed the inflated battery as well as a small board (not sure what it did, but it probably communicated with the console as to the status of the battery itself) attached, and the two pieces of the shell. Otherwise, the externals itself were in decently used condition as the shell and screen were scattered with slight scratches and fingerprints. The analog stick was a bit loose but still usable, the D-Pad felt a bit weird because there might be some debris under that is creating a small "squish" sound, but not too noticeable. Shoulder buttons were partially clear with dust on the edges and the face buttons were slightly faded. It also had a 1 GB Memory Stick Duo in the slot. Since it didn't look like the screws were tampered, I assumed that the battery was the only problem with the system.

That night, I ordered a battery replacement pack that included a battery replacement and a USB/Power cable that split between the two ports to both charge and access the system's memory on Amazon, since I wanted to prioritize time. Unfortunately, it came in a week and today was the day that the package arrived!! Immediately I placed the new battery into the slot and placed a small piece of electrical tape in-between the battery hatch and the outside of the UMD tray as a temporary measure so it would hold the hatch into place, and because I don't have any UMDs to actively use with this PSP so the tray is worthless for now. Surprisingly, the battery was charged already and the system powered on with no effort! I quickly did a skim of the system to find no games or videos listed, only 2 save data files and a copy of Low (feat. T-Pain) by Flo Rida lol; there were plenty of disorganized files on the memory stick when I plugged it into my PC as I knew 2 save files and a song would NOT take up 300 mb...

I kind of regretted not ordering a memory card adapter (to maximize storage) with the purchase but I didn't want to risk buying one if it didn't work in the first place, so I'll get it later.

As to set it up and test games (and controls), I went through a bunch of methods of trying to connect to the internet to download my own games but none of them prevailed.. I ended up installing temp CFW and bringing over SFA3Max! Worked like a charm, and the Ad Hoc was really smooth with my PS Vita :D

I have no particular plans with the PSP for now besides giving it as a gift for Christmas to my friend who lost their own :3 I'll also teach them how to mod and homebrew since it is really easy to and just has so much potential as a small hand-held!!

Nice, PSPs can be a pain to fix sometimes. The analog stick on those is one of the most obnoxious things to fix...
