scary movies: Dawn of the Dead

Spoiler warning for Dawn of the dead (1978)

I finally found a copy of The 1978 Dawn of the dead. I've been looking everywhere for it. i searched on Netflix, Hulu, and HBO, I even check Tubi. but none of them had it available. YouTube however did. I was going through another phase of learning more about horror moves and just happen to see it on there.

The last time I watch this version I was a kid. I had forgotten a lot of details about it since then. several of the elements are different than it is in the remake. like the main group being much smaller, the way they secure the mall and the reason why they leave near the end.

not to mention the 04' version focuses more on action and drama where the 78' is more of a combo of horror and comedy.

But both movies deal with themes of consumerism to different degrees.

while watching the movie. I had an idea of some key scenes that happen but even than I remain in suspense and found myself turning away at some parts.

The campy special effects and makeup adds a layer of realism and humor. the zombies are a blue-gray from oil paint and powder. making them come off as other worldly creatures. there is tons of fake bright red blood that gush from every bite. And thousands of hands dig into false bellies like plates of spaghetti.

Lastly, I really enjoy the score of the original film at times it could be fun and somewhat whimsical but can quickly change to an air of doom and dread.

To be honest the movie gave me a few nightmares and I'm not ashamed to says so.

If you like older horror movies I do recommend this one. however as a warning, this movie contains strong language and gore.
