latest broadway drama

A rather weird casting call was posted to Playbill this week (it has since been removed) looking to cast a leading actress and other minor parts. It claimed to have scouted over 1500 other actresses and still haven't found the perfect woman for the role, and also claimed to have already casts stars such as Aaron Lazar (Les Mis), Norm Lewis (Phantom of the Opera), Tim Hower (Mike + The Mechanics), Doug Kreeger and James good.

The reason it is so interesting is the unprofessional way it was written, with it seeming almost like it was bragging at rejecting movie stars, pop stars, Tony winners, and yet still haven't found the one they're looking for. The post does not really describe what it is they're looking for, just someone that can "hit low alto notes and high soprano notes" and "sing open and from the heart" and "make the producers cry".

The only information we have about the lead role is:

"Alicia, the leading lady can come from anywhere on (sic) earth and travel will be paid if we find her on Earth. It's been a journey"

It goes on to state a couple of 'rules' that basically admit that it doesn't matter who reaches out to them, they will NEVER respond back, the casting department will not respond back, they don't want anyone who "even remotely sounds like they are auditioning us. We're just going to delete your entry."

No wonder they haven't cast the lead, they delete the entries of anyone that is actually auditioning! They also only want you to sing 'Never Enough' from The Greatest Showman, and while I'm not a music expert at all, I know that song enough that it doesn't showcase the lowest alto notes OR the highest soprano ones so I am unsure on how useful it really will be for this role.

The kicker is that it claims to have a budget of $150 million dollars when the most expensive Broadway show in history is Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark at $70-79 million dollars. Almost double!

There's almost nothing known about the show itself except for what can be learned from 'undeadvalley.com' which is the name of the production company. On it there is a poster for the musical featuring a zombie woman with her head on backwards romantically holding onto a human solider, and then text claiming it is 'walking dead meets west side story'.

Some people are speculating that this might be 'Warm Bodies: The Musical' but I don't think that that's the case as there would have been information about it being in production long ago, and that the genders of the human and zombified characters are switched in the marketing. If it's anything like the casting post than it might be a chaotic and fun time.
