"Respect your elders", "respect religions", "respect culture" fuck that it's not real it's the biggest cop-out created by the people in society who harm the most people. Respect is a scam. You are not entitled to my respect if you're going to treat me like shit, "respect" rarely actually means just being a decent person, it means not questioning authority, it means not questioning anything, it means being blind.
If a (perfectly mentally sound) old person says something bigoted, "it wasn't like that when they were younger", maybe a better example, old person won't stop fucking hugging you, or tries to get you to shake their hand, but you saying "fuck off" makes you the bad person. But of course, "respect" means indulging them, not just telling them politely to stop, it means wrapping your arms around them as you feel like you're going to be sick, because of the piss smell hanging off them.
A religion condemns homosexuality? Women? Black people? Well, it's part of their religion, you must respect their religion, it's fine if it's part of their religion. A Christian or a Muslim or anyone else says their holy book, (just a book, an old and dusty book but a book nonetheless) thinks a group of real people, real people who live in the real world, should not exist, will be sent to a pit of fire and deserve it, all because of their idea of a creator, that's fine, yet if I say Hitler's 'mein kampf' is the word of God, that's not okay, why? What's the difference? I am not trying to be an edgelord here, I am not saying I worship Hitler, I do not, I am simply using an extreme example to get the point across.
A culture, culture is a big word, it means everything, so it means nothing, it is entirely meaningless. I do not care if something harmful is "cultural", it is all the more reason to destroy it, start something new, stop clinging to the past, stop following in the footsteps of the corrupt dead.
Respect for the dead, that's another one, awful people are always given immunity in death, and their families and friends rewrite their lives to support the narrative that they were a good person. There are exceptions of course, the most awful people, Hitler of course, to bring him up again, and for a more recent example, Jimmy Savile, but when the Queen died, the Queen of England of course, it was seen as the worst thing possible to say anything anti-monarchy, even if it wasn't aimed at the Queen herself. Disgusted twats who get on their knees in front of the royal's open jeans snarl "have some respect" fuck that, I'll have respect for a good person, not the Queen of England not the King of England the fact that they have those titles in the first place is a reason not to respect them.
"Respect" is an excuse used to silence those with the capacity to think critically.

i read this metaphor about how there are two definitions of respect: treating people like fellow humans and treating people like an authority. and some people think "respecting each other" means if you dont treat them like an authority they wont treat you like a human. im sorry you feel bad, most people arent complete jerks
