When I was thirteen years old, I learned about Myspace through a friend in keyboarding class. Shortly after, I came across Ashbo & Whateverlife and fell down a rabbit hole so deep and elaborate it involved my mom pirating a copy of Photoshop from a collague and buying my first "coding for dummies" book. I was obsessed. At thirteen years old, I already understood the sense of community social media could bring along with the power of anonymity allowing for self expression at an age I felt that was difficult impossible to do. I could be myself and there was a place that was welcomed and encouraged.Â
Flash forward 18 years and that initial sense of anonymity is long gone, but the power to connect through shared hobbies, values, and experiences not only remains, but has only continued to grow. In the time this has grown, the rest of us have as well. I've found myself at a point in life where, much like Hank Hill, I'm finding the power of a good hobby. I'm looking forward to diving into this site and igniting the spark my adolescent self was so passionate about and connecting with like minded friends along the way.
Thanks, SpaceHey!
