I'm actually super upset and disappointed about there being a Spacehey app. THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SITE IS TO HAVE AN AUTHENTIC 2000'S EXPERIENCE WHERE YOU COULDN'T ACCESS SOCIAL MEDIA ON A CELL PHONE.
I hate this. I hate the direction this entire world is going.Β
Maybe I'll come around to it later on, but for now I think I'm just going to only use the web version. I really hate our phone-centered social media culture and I personally am scared that this development decision will only make the community have more problematic people since making an account is extremely easy now.
I don't know how to feel about this. I was hoping that this wouldn't happen to Spacehey, but now that is has, this site has immediately started to lose its charm for me.
I may just spend more of my time on other non-app centered platforms. Sorry, but I can't get behind people revolving their entire lives on social media, it's dystopian and gross.Β Β I've always been an old-web HTML/CSS customization girly and social media apps are NOT it.Β
I hate people who mindlessly conform to social media trends, spend their entire lives on it, and then wonder why they feel like shit. I can't have much sympathy for that.
No hate towards you An, I know you worked super hard on the app, and have full respect for you for coding and developing this entire website, but I think making an app was a bad move. There goes the entire charm of the website.

I completely agree with this blog post and fuck this stupid dystopian modern world we fucking live in.

I agree with your point exactly. I really don't want the community to become problematic. I only have the app because I needed easy access to chat with friends while at school

I agree with this so much.
When I first heard that An was announcing something big, my first thought was: "I really hope it's not an app." When I learned that this big announcement was indeed an app, I immediately felt crushed. I joined this site to escape app-based social media platforms. As somebody who absolutely loves the 2000s (the decade is one of my biggest interests), I was overjoyed when I found out about this platform's existence. SpaceHey is unique in that it doesn't (or didn't, I guess) need an app to have a thriving community. Like you, I am worried that the release of the app will inspire trolls, problematic people, and app-addicted people to join SpaceHey en masse. This app has made me worry for the future of SpaceHey.

I was really hoping that the "big announcement" was going to be the implementation of something that MySpace had that SpaceHey does not.

I was completely crushed too. Never going to download it no matter how cool people say it is

Yeah I totally agree with you. Just scrolling through the recent blogs it seems like the toxic crowd has already been migrating over, but I imagine with the app it'll get worse. I'm disappointed because I was hoping to have found a relatively peaceful social media site. The entire reason (aside from the cool profiles) was to escape the insufferable people that infest the other platforms. I'm still hopeful that a nice community can be built here!
I've honestly have been less active on here because of so much spam clogging up the blog posts and it's starting to get really annoying.

completely agree! i indulged in the app myself for a couple seconds and realized how much it was going against the aesthetic of the site. hopefully this doesn't end up hurting the culture of the site! i'm still very new and want to get acclimated with the site, and don't want it to be tarnished by people who come to this site and see it as a novelty, or end up turning it into something it wasn't meant to be. i know they won't reverse the decision, but it's very harmful towards the site itself. i was really looking forward to switching to this site as my main form of social media, away from people who primarily use tiktok or twitter (no offense) but seeing how easy it is to migrate now makes me very worried for the culture of the site.
i hope you don't mind a random commenting on your blog, i was just scrolling down the recent blogs and decided to comment!
No I appreciate you taking the time to read!
οΈ This was mostly a rant, but did leave the comments section open for discussion/thoughts. I'm worried about the decision too
