hi there! I've been thinking a lot about silly core(sorry if there's a better name, this is the one I'm using for now)in relation to kawaii, the original kawaii from Japan. For those who don't know, kawaii started off as a subculture in Japan for young girls rejecting the cultural expectation of them to be good wives and mature. It started around the same time as western punk/goth/emo/alternative subcultures and has surprisingly similar values (doing what you want even against authority). Anyways I'm not sure how to define sillycore but it seems to have very similar characteristics to kawaii. I'm hoping you know what I mean by sillycore (pictures of cats with captions, gifs with over the top effects, sanrio, poorly drawn images, emphasis on love and being best friends, emoticons, :3). It's a very interesting parallel as a rebellion against culture telling people to be mature and cynical. correct me on anything if I'm wrong, this is all based on background knowledge and my observations, but I'd love to discuss it! buh bye ヽ(^_-)ノ
sillycore as American kawaii(I rlly wanna talk about this)
