I already knew she was here but she's a similar case to Momiji where she only appears for a few seconds as a transition. She spins across the screen (as she is known to do) as a transition between Sanae and Kanako :3 Her appearance is alot more obvious but I thought I'd point her out anyways!

Reimu and Marisa Go Retro

Now I feel this is a deet not many know about. Reimu and Marisa start and end the AMV, understandable as the protags throughout the series, but did you notice their designs are different between these two appearances?

It's definitely hard to tell since they're just silhouettes, but if you look really closely, there are some differences.

For the sake of time I'll be focusing only on Reimu. In the beginning, her hair is up, reaching between her shoulder blades, and her sleeves have ruffles on them, as they're detached from the rest of her kimono-eque attire.

At the end, her hair goes down her back, and there's no sleeve ruffles. The skirt also appears less fluffy, like a real kimono.

Homage to the OG Bad Apple and the PC98 Era

When I first noticed the previous detail I got really excited! This is such a neat little thing to include, and it absolutely makes sense to do so.

Bad Apple is a song from Lotus Land Story, a PC98 game. It was Elly's theme, who before those two, is the last character to appear, and the only PC98 character included that hasn't survived into the Windows Era. 

Yuuka and Alice are also shown off towards the end, the second and fourth to last respectively, and they were both originally PC98 characters and I believe the only ones along with Reimu and Marisa to make the jump to Windows (Nitori is third to last but a Windows gal, weird outlier here).

The PC98 games exist in this weird place, being only playable on a Japan exclusive computer that's long dead. Hell, the first one isn't even a bullet hell, it was a motherfuckin brick breaker. It was the series in its infancy, limited to like 10 colors and chiptune music, before a major jump in quality only after afew years when games were developed on Windows OSes.

Most people don't bother with the PC98 games or characters. Fans are out there, but most only know of Mima. And... Bad Apple. 

The first era of this franchise only lives on through meme. I don't quite know why Mima of all characters is unironically ironically famous, but then again I don't know what drove this Bad Apple cover and AMV to be so popular. But the dedication to recreating the AMV in so many formats and places, it keeps the PC98 era alive. It may be mistaken for Vocaloid, and people may not know the girl behind the theme, but... I dunno. This probably all sounds really cheesy n stuff. I'm gonna add the images to this post now and call it a night. Its almost 2AM! Holy hell
