Jiu finds an obscure Korean idol series! (+Honorable mention)

Hiiii!!!! It's been a super while since I was active on SpaceHey. There is a reason why I'm inactive in this site: Lazy. I'm so lazy I drained interest to the site lol. Even after posting this blog entry, I doubt I might be active again, so please don't expect me to be active after this post. But finding this obscure Korean idol series made me wanna be active on Spacehey again for a bit and post in the blog so I can spread the word by linking this blog to other sites. I wanted people to know more about the series since I find it really interesting, yet super obscure.

Here's the series I mentioned: Superstar Romy (슈퍼스타 로미)

Superstar Romy was made by SmartStudy (the one that made Pinkfong, the one that made Baby Shark, and I'm NOT even kidding about that) before it was cancelled in the 2020s, probably because of the company's transition to the Pinkfong Company. Judging by the concept, description that Librewiki provided, and key visuals, it was a concept for an idol series for children. The concept started in 2019, and was apparently supposed to be released in 2020. Apparently, the series was originally called "Dream Star Romy" (드림스타 로미).

The series could have been made with 13 episodes and 11 minutes in length, and it could have been produced in CGI and would have been in 3D "with 2D sensibility". It was unknown what that meant, but I'm going to assume that the animation would have 3D and 2D mixed together.

The plot would have been about Pico and their group meeting Romy and have her challenge the "Dream Star" and become the "Singer King".

I found about the concept when I was a huuuuge Pinkfong fan at the time in around 2019. I was exploring the SmartStudy site (before it was changed to the Pinkfong company) and switched to the Korean version and found this idol series in the "Contents" page.

I had high hopes for the series to be showcased and released but sadly it got cancelled after Smartstudy's transition to The Pinkfong Company, and the company now focuses maybe too much on Pinkfong, and other series that Smartstudy one made like Superstar Romy were faded into obscurity. Maybe except Monster Super League (a game made by Smartstudy in 2016, and it's still alive and kicking even in 2023). It had so much potential. Superstar Romy reminds me of Aikatsu, which I wanted to REALLY like but didn't even put a finger to it because it has one of the idol types being called "Sexy" and tbh it made me sad because Aikatsu has so much potential too :( Like, Ran Shibuki and others of this idol type are underage wtf why call her "sexy". Bleh

I especially like the the character designs! They're cute as hell omg- I especially love how Romy looked, but others are super cute too! And I also love the pastel purple-haired girl design, she reminds me a bit of Lagrange from Arcaea but smol. And overall I liked the aesthetic! If production was successful and the series got released, it would have been my new hyperfix!

I hope the series gets picked up again but I sadly doubt because SmartStudy now focuses more on Pinkfong, and other works faded to obscurity. The Pinkfong Company even supports eneftees (see Bubblefong Friends) and I'm upset about that x(

Honorable mention: There's also another series concept from Smartstudy which I like: Choopy! I also find it interesting. It was another concept of a series made by SmartStudy. The designs remind me of Oddbods but cuter. I really liked the concept too, but I'm sad that the production got cancelled alongside Superstar Romy. As far as I know, there was no plot lol.
