Life update/my writing

    I'm really excited my friend gave me a spare laptop he had just lying around. This guy is like the Oprah of Macbooks, apparently this is the seventh one he has gifted! He gets them for free at his job, but still he could've sold it. Anyways I'm super grateful to now have my own laptop. I've been wanting to blog and write more. I hope to keep up with this!

    Since i've had my laptop I've been working on writing more. Writing has always been a hobby of mine, but I honestly have neglected it for so long. I just find it hard to stay inspired or just the act of committing to it. For about a year and a half I've had this idea for a book series I want to write someday. I wrote a good chunk of world building in a notebook, and have written down different little things on my phone. Like interesting names and their meanings. As much as I love the fantasy world I've been creating, I can recognize my writing ability is not up to par with what it is I'm wanting to do. You can't just randomly decide to sit down and write a series consisting of several novels. I guess you could but I don't think it would be any good. 

    To work on my writing I've started writing short stories. It just started as a fun game with my girlfriend. I gave her a few key points to write a fairytale and vice versa. I completed mine and really hate it and think I need to be burned at the stake. I made some rookie errors and will never forgive myself! That's dramatic, but I also learned from that and I think I need to write what I know. Whenever I write about something that I have some sort of emotional connection to the outcome is so much better. From now on I will focus on that.

    About two weeks ago my emotions were turbulent and I viewed it as a great opportunity. I originally was going to write about it in my journal, but I thought it would be more productive to channel that into my writing. So I wrote this absolutely unhinged short story/poem, and it honestly provided me with far better results than my last attempt. I had a few of my friends, my mom, and my girlfriend read it. everyone who read it so far really enjoyed it! I really love that story because of the emotional connection it has to me, and I like that it has a dark tone. I've always loved bizarre and macabre shit.

    Since I felt that my second story was a success, I wanted to write another. I have another one in progress. I'm focusing on writing what I know. The stories aren't verbatim retellings of my life or anything like that. I just take a scenario or feeling I'm familiar with and create the story around that. Also since I like stories with a darker vibe I'm once again diving into that. I will admit I purposefully made myself emotional so I could really get in tune with the emotions I'm wanting to convey in this story. It worked a little too well and made me very sad! This is a good thing though because I know the story is coming together exactly as I intended. I'm very excited to finish this one because I can't wait to share it with my usuals. I hope they like this one as well!

    A few of my friends that read my stories suggested that I post them or compile them all into a book of short stories. I'm not sure where I would post them because what if someone steals them? Which may be very conceited to think someone is going to steal my stories, but I don't know people are unpredictable. Creating a book a book of short stories would be so amazing. I just don't know how I'd go about that or if anyone would even have interest. Everyone says I'm too hard on myself and downplay everything, but I think its just being realistic? I don't know I think its just always good to manage your expectations so you're not disappointed and so you're grounded in reality. I just wouldn't want to get my hopes up if that makes sense. 

    At the end of the day, I really love writing and plan on working on a bunch of short stories. I am determined to improve my writing, and maybe one day I could be published! I will also blog more because I just think this site is so cool! I'm really wanting to talk about my various interests and hobbies. Tonight I just wanted to talk about writing since its been my main focus the past few days. If you've read this far thank you! :)
