Solitude

If I could, I would
Move to the dark side of the moon.

No people,
No houses,
Just me, myself, and no one else.

I could jump,
I could sing,
And you wouldn't hear a thing.

I could scream,
I could yell,
And I wouldn't have to tell
Anyone anything.

I could be alone,
But I'd end up missing home.
I'd miss all the trees—
The oak, the pine, the evergreen,
The birds and the cicadas that sing.

I'd miss doing my favorite things,
walking through the forest,
reading books and being
overly honest.

I'd miss taking photographs
of lavender and poppies,
and blossom trees surrounded by bees.
But I think most of all...

I'd miss the moon's reflection,
splayed out and glittering,
along the salty sea's horizon,
sparkling and glassy,
as I lay in the grass and see
all that surrounds me,
all that's around me.

Everything as far as I can see
is tranquility,
and love and peace.
