'In the Darkness' - So Weird

Essentially this show was Disney Channel's X-Files but with Rock music. Fiona "Fi" Phillips (Cara Delizia) and her older brother Jack (Patrick Levey) travel with their mom on her comeback tour. The first two seasons are about Fi solving the paranormal murder of her father. Season three wasn't as dark but still good: Annie (Alexz Johnson of Instant Star and the Final Destination series) replaces Fi on the bus but instead of investigating a murder, Annie solves the mystery of why she has a panther spirit animal.

My favorite episodes where 'Rebecca', 'Strange Geometry', and 'Still Life.' Molly (Makenzie Phillips) is reunited with her childhood friend's "daughter" named Rebecca whose (metaphorically) haunted Molly since her disappearance as a teenager. Turns out the daughter is really Rebecca, and is immortal and must move around to avoid detection.

The creepiest part of 'Strange Geometry' is when faces and limbs come out of the walls as Fi investigates why a recording studio/hotel is haunted. 'Still Life' is your typical escapism episode: a painter creates a wonderful, colorful grove which Molly buys. Unbeknownst to her, he casted a spell so he could enter the painting. On a stormy night, Annie and the Phillips family get sucked into the painting.

Cooksney, who created this show, said that if Disney had allowed four season shows, he would have had Fi descend into Hell to rescue her father, and have an alcholoism episode paralleling Molly/Mackenzie's addiction treatment. Jack was also a reincarnated Celtic knight who volunteered to be reborn as Fi's older brother. 

I bought all the dvds from a Canadian seller years ago and it was just recently Disney+ released the show on their streaming service. Twenty-three years have passed -- I watched this show when I was 6 -- and I'm still amazed Disney greenlit this show. And yes, everyone shipping Molly and Carry (Eric Lively) and Jack and Annie.
