Insects

Been getting into preserving insects for display. Got a kill jar and everything. My friend's an even bigger entomology head than I am and she's been giving me advice on how to keep the wings from curling and so on and so forth.

Then come the ethics. How can I kill a living creature for my own ends? Can they even really feel? This plagues me whenever I capture a new specimen and drop it into the jar. I once took a ladybird larva I found outside and fed it aphids until it metamorphosised, some weeks later, after which I set it free in my garden. So in a way, I both give and take. I'm thinking of keeping track of the bugs I kill and matching it by leaving mashed banana near piles of logs, or something like that.

There's something really therapeutic about pinning too. And the feeling of putting something you prepared on the wall is addictive. I've always liked bugs, especially beetles. Finding someone with the same interest has been really nice.
