Is Owning music better than Spotify? What to know before building a digital music library.

So Let's start and say hello. my name is bug and I have building my music library for about 7 years and I have about 1,200 songs. and have had to deal with most of the stupid, good, and annoying stuff to do with digital music libraries. And I will of course compare Spotify to a digital music library which i will call a DML from now on. And lets start with  

Streaming Right Issues

As a fan of an artist you obviously have those deepest of the deep cut songs from a certain artist and Spotify will 100% not have it. Let's take for example the band Satanicpornocultshop.(yes I know weird name) they are a group that uses heavy sampling and is overall and pretty underground band. which leads to their discography on Spotify being 3 albums and 2 singles. Compare that to their discog on their bandcamp being 44 singles and albums. Yeah I kinda want more than 3 albums from one of my fav artists.    

Costs

You Pay for spotify premium? *Ahem* ( Block the Spot ) anyways. Spotify premium is like 10 bucks a month. not too bad right. especially compared to 120 and 60 dollars for my Music player and SSD. but Spotify is a monthly charge so eventually you will exceed how much It would cost you. And erm it's Pirate time....

Free Mp3 Download - Website that Supports Mp3 and Lossless downloads Yet is limited to official releases.  

Soul Seek - Peer to Peer Program that Supports more Mp3 and Lossless. Its pretty much Napster. 

I still majorly support using Bandcamp First for smaller Artists. It really is pretty easy. and will ensure the file you get is high quality. But Sometimes albums just don't have a way of buying them.       

File Management.

Now I think This is the biggest hill to overcome when it comes to managing your digital music library. and is the biggest advantage Spotify has over a DML Here's what I use

AIMP - Music Bee My two choices for desktop Music Players. these programs come with very useful tools 

Mp3 Tag What I use to edit the metadata of songs. aka the artists and album information.

Sound Quality

this other than spotify's garbage library is a reason as to why I own a DML. Sound quality Spotify caps out at 320kb/s where Most of my library is 320. certain songs can get into the thousands. and they sound freakin amazing. and you couldn't catch me dead paying another service tidal for an even more limited lossless library so yeah.  

Hardware

If You are thinking of buying an ipod to mod. I do not recommend. the costs of buying an ipod then a new battery then a ssd mod then putting that all together costs too much. Instead I recommend

HIFI WALKER H2  

This has Usb-C, Line out, Usb Dac, and a stable enough build of rockbox for it. I recommend an external player but of course you can keep it on your phone. but my library wouldn't allow that. lol. again another advantage of Spotify.
