Paramount+ commercials

We all, at this point, are overloaded with streaming services. Practically everyone have one or two, or have launched their own after fleeing Netflix or Hulu. ViacomCBS, on the other hand, is relaunching an existing service, CBS All-Access (or, in Australia, 10 All-Access), as Paramount+ (which was the name of another service operating in certain overseas areas). You might think "Oh joy, another one." But, regardless of if you'll actually sub to it or not, they've been hitting it out of the park in one area: advertisements.

The TV spots created to promote the relaunch have been incredible. They're funny and well-written, featuring a crazy mix of characters -- Spock and Pike, Beavis and Butt-head, Gayle King, Lt. Dangle, Jeff Probst, and Samara the ghost girl, among others -- embarking on an expedition to the peak of the Paramountain itself, narrated by Patrick Stewart. The humor comes from tossing all these assorted people and beings together and having them bounce off each other -- Spock declaring a puppet from Crank Yankers has "puppet frostbite" and a golfer teeing off on the frozen limb, causing everyone to do the quiet golf clap, for instance. It's what WarnerMedia/AT&T should've done for HBO Max. It's clear who's in on this and it uses a Hollywood icon as the backdrop for hilarity. I just wish it wouldn't end.
