A dead baby bird, an empty pack of cigarettes, a gummy bear.
All on the same square of sidewalk.
There's no real way of knowing how they all got there; lung cancer that makes your brain buzz, flavored pigs hooves, the only thing that makes any sense to be there is the poor bird, still featherless, most likely having fallen from the tree above.
The bird never got to experience life at all. The gummy bear is something that humans made to hopefully make their lives feel better, the cigarettes are what they made when they realized gummy bears wouldn't cut it.
In my mind I found them to symbolize the stages of life- the gummy bear is a hopeful youth, the cigarettes a nihilistic adulthood, the baby bird the eventual end to all. The bird never got to experience anything except for falling, I think humans are similar, we only really fall in our lives, the steady and fast descent from youth to age, we never get to experience much more than falling. Before we know it we are on a sidewalk somewhere, surrounded by things we hoped would help but knew wouldn't.
