Power Scaling Brightburn
Today I'll be breaking down Brightburn, a movie that I've never heard discussed, VS Battle scene or not. To be honest though, I don't have too much to say. This isn't a complicated movie.
Prerequisites
- For simplicity's sake, I will be assuming all non-superhuman appearing characters are average human level unless I have reason to believe otherwise
- As always, I'll be assuming that the universe is nearly equal to our own. I feel like this doesn't need to be said, but I'm the detailed type.
- I won't be using any variants. I assume Brandon was always capable of his powers and just didn't know it or had reasons to hide his full strength at times.
- I'll be going in order from weakest to strongest.
Humans
I always start with humans, and this scaling is no different. All humans, except for Kyle Breyer are seemingly normal human level, with an odd curveball.
Speed
- Basic human level. I have nothing much to add seeing as though no one does anything speedy.
Durability
- This one is interesting. Most humans seem fairly weak, but judging by the thrashing that Noah and the police woman take before dying, I'd say the humans in this universe are actually above human level.
- Adding to the above point, Brandon strains himself at least a tiny bit while trying to crush his classmates hand. Knowing how powerful Brandon is, it's a bit weird.
- My final word on this subject: Humans are just built different in this verse. Humans are maybe 1x Super Human, possibly 2-3x for adults.
Power
- Basic human level.
Intelligence
- Basic human level. I'd actually venture to say low human, given the deduction "skills" from each human character.
Character
- Everyone in the movie is surprisingly docile, minus the classmate's goon mom who wants prison time for Brandon, who then later goes on to mean mug Brandon. "Here's your sign" -Bill Engvall
Kyle Breyer
This one might be in here for the laughs. Still, not separating Brandon's dad from the other humans would force me to come to the conclusion that humans in this verse are just crazy.
Speed
- Kyle isn't very fast. He avoids Brandon immediately killing him in the woods, but his son plays with his food in fights.
Durability
- So this is weird. Brandon flight tackles a cop, who then becomes red mist. Keep in mind that adults are just kinda durable in this world. But, Kyle tanks a flight tackle from Brandon and isn't hurt. Thing is, Brandon was actively trying to kill his dad, so he has no reason to go easy.
- Adding to the above point, Brandon hits his father with a concentrated laser beam, the same one that cut an industrial walk-in door. These doors are usually coated with aluminum or stainless steel. So, Kyle takes a laser to the head, and lives for seconds, before it finally barrels through his brain. So he's just metal skinned? Metal organ'd?
- If human durability is ~2x super human, and Kyle tanks a move that overkill one shots a human, then later goes on to tank a laser beam for a few seconds, I guess he's in the realm of 10x+ super human. That's assuming the tackle from Brandon was maybe not all out or Brandon was more hurt than he was acting.
- TL;DR: Steel skin, 10x+ SH body toughness (probably more).
Power
- The only bit of power we see is Kyle grabbing Brandon's arm. He loses his grip as soon as Brandon pulls back. You could maybe assume that Brandon had to put some effort in to breaking loose, but that may only put Kyle at athlete level. We know for a fact that he sticks to his firearm as his weapon, so he can't be any more deadly than a rifle.
Intelligence
- Kyle somehow knows things that aren't substantiated to a weird degree. He's either smarter than most humans around him, or he's really lucky and really irrational. High human intelligence may be the balancing point.
Character
- Kyle is not very quick to make kill choices. His choice to kill Brandon is shrouded in a trip into the woods, distracting his son, and slowly taking aim. I'll give him credit for reloading his gun for a second kill attempt. He's still low on the goon list though.
Brandon Breyer
Brandon might be one of the stronger characters I've broken down so far in my live action scales.
Speed
- In the air, Brandon is too fast for humans to keep track of him. He ends up being a blur that can flash around the room. It reminds me of a car moving past me on the highway, if I was hanging out on the side of the road for some reason. 60 mph or super human level seems reasonable.
- Brandon can seemingly teleport, albeit maybe not over long distances.
Durability
- Brandon tanks hunting rifle bullets, flies into walls at high speed, and at the very end, potentially downs an airplane. All without any reaction or damage. We actually don't see him get hurt by anything, besides a piece of his ship.
- Going off of the above point, Brandon might be human level, but with a game rule that prevents him from taking damage. Minor rubbing against metal shouldn't cut him if he can tank bullets. I'm assuming he's his verse's human level (2x SH level apparently) with the benefit of programmed resilience against anything that isn't his ship.
Power
- Kid tackles a cop into red mist. Mr general rule of thumb for one-shotting is that the attack must deal at least as much damage as a back and forth with a relative character would deal. This is generally 5-10 hearty blows as a minimum. If the humans are ~2x SH in durability, this tackle should be 10-20x super human at least. Easily more if accounting for the fact that Brandon blows the cop apart rather than eating his health bar.
- Brandon has telekinesis that can rip industrial doors from their hinges and lift old trucks into the air. This falls in to 2x super human at least.
- In the end credits, we watch Brandon level a large building. If we want to mess around with power scaling wiki numbers, that's ~1.4 million x super human, although I'm inclined to believe that punching a couple load bearing walls is to blame, rather than a blast compared to a ton of TNT.
Intelligence
- Brandon isn't notably smart. He's mentally fortified enough to make accurate judgment calls on who means him harm and who doesn't, so he's a bit more advanced than a child.
Character
- Brandon is a little power-ranger-addicted, troubled teen headass, xxxtentacion cypher no beat type beat. He wants to end the world but plays politics for most of the movie. Once he kills his parents, his plan to destroy everyone begins.
