am i an audiophile now?!

Today I went to a record fair in a nearby town. Ever since I got my CD player, I've been obsessed with collecting physical music. I've been growing off my dad's CD collection, and now I'm collecting vinyl as well because a few weeks ago I won a record player at a raffle at my school's Halloween festival! I also go to the music store in my town with my friend who's also into physical music (I think I mentioned him in the last post?).

Anyways, here's the haul:

Everything Sucks from Descendents, a hardcore/punk comp CD called Music Does A Body Good, and a vintage pin that just says "dude." The guy who gave me Everything Sucks told me it's probably first press because he remembers buying it when it came out. He also gave me that comp for free! He said if I like Descendents I might like the things in the comp. It's also still in plastic, which is so crazy to me for some reason. I checked the back and it's all band I've never heard before, so I know I'm definitely going to like it.

We also got a plasma ball for my brother, a Kuromi pin for my sister, and 3 Xbox 360 games for my dad. The guy who gave us the plasma ball said he had it since he was my brother's age (like 8-10), and that's so crazy to me. I really love collectors, because they love their collections so much that they're willing to give them to other people who love them. I really admire it, I could never let go of anything I find cool! I'll hold onto my CDs and vinyls and hopefully soon casettes until the day I die, and then when I reincarnate I'll come back for them.

I just put in the CD after finishing the record. Safe to say, this is not what I expected when I saw the cover. I know it said hardcore/punk, but the art gave me folk/cow punk vibes. Why do album covers have such different feelings than the album itself? like I have You'll Be Fine from Hot Mulligan on vinyl, and to me the cover art doesn't match the album. It's probably just me not understanding. Also I got You'll Be Fine 2 days ago from my uncle. He likes Hot Mulligan and it's actually really good. They're emo, but they feel emo in the way that MCR feels pop punk. What I mean is, you'll listen to them and think "hey what genre is this?" and when you find out they're emo you think "ohhh, that makes sense." I speak in analogies like that, but usually I'm the only one who understands them.

But anyways, I'm really liking this comp. I love CDs like Punk-O-Rama and stuff, it's cool to have collections of different songs from bands I've never heard of. Like I bought a Punk-O-Rama CD and now I know Millencolin and H2O! On this comp there's female-fronted bands, which is interesting to me because we don't hear a lot about women in the scene. The High School Sweethearts, Wives, and Vanbuilderass are women! Better yet, they're so obscure Discogs has barely anything on them! They sound really good so I'd suggest checking them out (if you can find their music at all, that is).

That's all I have to say today. I think I should start taking my collection seriously. It'd be cool to actually know what I'm doing, y'know?
