hi every1 and thank u for coming to my ted talk. our discussion today will consist of cancel culture today.
ive never really understood why exactly people care so much about what other (mostly adult) celebrities do. like, who tf cares if an 18 year old was vapingΒ β theyre 18. i dont understand why there is such a high standards for celebrities, especially those that emerged from social media. some of these celebrities are normal people, who have good days and bad days, and who have good traits and bad traits. to have the consequence of behaving 'less than' be complete cancellation of your career is truly frightening, and everyone knows that celebrities nowadays have to walk on literal eggshells as to not stir up any controversy. even when doing as much as they can to keep their record clean, someone will always find a way to try to cancel them. its sooo annoying. everyone was getting so worked up about doja cat's behaviour towards her fans, just barely dodging total cancellation by the time she released her album, with a devilish character. things like this, surprises like this, could easily land you in the hot seat. sure, it could be a genius marketing plan, but if it goes awry, you entire career could be ruined. thus said, its really sad that people genuinely have nothing to do with their lives besides stalking celebrities' pages and looking for any tiny piece of information to ignite the fire. as an obsessive person myself, i understand filling your life with not very progressive hobbies, but obsessing over one 'less than' celebrity is absolutely pathetic. not everyone is going to be a happy go lucky, sweet person. its life. live your life, and let the freaking celebrities live their ownΒ β theyre only human!
