spacehey, twitter, and The Algorithm

wow what a website i have been introduced to today. this style of forum/blogging is something i have not touched since i was too young to be using the internet and the last hour or so has just been a massive wave of nostalgia. the elaborate html/css, the shitty but charming UX, the lack of infinite scroll, and everything else about this website is designed in a way to actually connect people rather than make money and scrape data, at least at first glance. i think it's a little more difficult to build a huge friend list or be "popular" (not that that would net you much anyways) as you have to meet people via mutual friends (no infinite scroll!) but i think that's more conducive to, y'know, making friends. i've always hated the issue most modern sns has where you don't really have anything inherently social about having a large following. developing a following is not developing a large group of friends, so why do we call it "social media"?
