ceasefire

my friend has been witnessing a genocide of her people for the past month. i told her that her rage is important, because it is. her family came to the states when her mother was pregnant with her and she shared a story of her experience as an 'anchor baby'. at age 6 performing on tests that helped her family to stay in the country and prove that this little girl could be a good American. in high school she was class president and is pursuing fucking neuroscience in college.

the past month has been challenging. "Other families do not have this" she says, and cries out that her mother tells her on the phone that palestine has always been like this. she loves her young niece and worries for her future as a palestinian-american girl the way she was. i hope she remembers that.

against these deafening howls is silence from media and politicians that tells on themselves. the undercurrent of rashida tlaib's censure in congress is the grim reality of what awaits the palestinian people. netanyahu expects occupation. egypt refuses to let palestinians in. the only option is to leave a place they have been for millenia and never return. to be forced out knowing that. and this is to be relegated to ten minutes of discussion. pathetic. someone on twitter said "I can never hate these children for what they become" as the death toll soared past 10,000 in Gaza. it's especially miserable to think about the lack of end goal.

it upsets me and i pray for peace.
