fnaf video game lore

after i made a post about the fnaf movie, i decided to make a post about the video game lore because it’s the first to start everything. i apologize if anything is inaccurate, however keep in mind some things are not confirmed yet, implied, or widely accepted theories. i have been keeping up with the series since the first game’s release and i have researched the FUCK out of this story LOL so this is the fnaf lore to my best knowledge. thank you for reading!

bit of backstory, william afton and henry emily create fredbear’s family diner sometime in the late 70s

1: FNAF 4

ok so we are introduced to william afton’s son, we will call him crying child (cc). he gets mistreated by his brother, michael, and he is terrified of his father’s animatronics. He gets hallucinations of his father’s animatronics except they look a lot more scarier (the nightmare animatronics didn’t actually look like that in the diner, that was cc’s imagination) every night, until his birthday. cc has his birthday at fredbears as expected and we see him with his older brother, michael and his friends. they are aware he’s scared of the animatronics and taunt him by bringing him closer to fredbear, the one he is the most afraid of. when they bring him to fredbear’s face for a “kiss,” he gets his head bit. this is the bite of ‘83, the first incident in the timeline. before entering the afterlife william promises to put him back together (bring him back to life).

cc now possesses fredbear and upon william realizing this, he wants to better understand what happened to his son and how he’s inside of an animatronic. he then designs animatronics with the sole purpose of killing (funtime animatronics). william’s daughter is very fascinated with circus baby in particular because she looks like a young girl and gives ice cream. on the opening day of circus baby’s pizza world, elizabeth managed to visit baby alone, getting killed despite her father telling her to stay away. elizabeth now possesses circus baby. henry catches onto this, kicking william out. henry is paranoid william will do something to hurt his daughter so he creates the puppet in order to protect charlie. one day when charlie is locked outside, william decides to kill her and leave her in an alley. the puppet was too late when it came to her after she died but charlie now possesses that animatronic.

2: FNAF 2
a new and improved freddy fazbear’s pizza opens and william manages to sneak through the back by wearing a security guard uniform and lures 5 children, killing them and stuffing them in the withered suits, giving fredbear 2 souls: cc and now cassidy. at the end of the week, the bite of 87 occurs where one of the animatronics bites the frontal lobe of the security guard, staining their reputation, resulting in this location being closed. on the custom night, there is a random security guard who only works for a single night under the name fritz smith. this is BELIEVED (theory) to be michael, william’s only remaining child, because he seems to be curious about what’s going on with his father and missing siblings. also who would willingly show up knowing an incident occurred? in midnight motorist he’s the one who sneaks out of the window and william says “he went to that place again,” most likely talking about freddy’s to investigate. 

3: FNAF 1

freddy fazbear’s pizza is opened AGAIN, this time you play as mike schmidt. this is believed to also be michael because when you get fired in both fnaf 2 and 1, they’re both for tampering with animatronics and odor, inferring they are the same person. also, when fredbear, now golden freddy, comes in the office, it says “it’s me” as if cc is trying to remind michael who he is. the old possessed withered animatronics get a redesign to the fnaf 1 characters you know with their souls still inside of them. in both fnaf 1 and 2, the animatronics try killing you, the security guard, because you’re dressed in the same security uniform as their killer. 

william goes back to the fnaf 2 location to cover up his evidence and starts to dissemble the animatronics. the souls came out of the animatronics and tried attacking william. william gets frightened and tries hiding in the old spring lock suit. spring lock suits are animatronics that can also function as costumes. however, these spring lock suits can trigger a spring lock failure (switching to animatronic mode) while someone is inside if it’s old or has moisture. while hiding in the suit, it triggers a spring lock failure, killing him, possessing spring trap. william bleeds out in the old freddy’s while the children’s souls slip away. 

4: FNAF Sister location

michael, still curious about his dad, finds an underground storage facility with the funtime animatronics. baby and the funtime animatronics have been stuck and want to escape so baby tricks michael by leading him to the scooping room, which takes an endoskeleton out of an animatronic’s shell. all of the funtime animatronics form together as ennard. when ennard scoops michael, he’s able to enter him through his guts and wore his skin until his physical body literally decomposes and spits ennard out, leaving michael still alive. they kick out baby from ennard because elizabeth was the daughter of william and they hate him. baby reassembles herself as scrap baby. now that baby is gone, they try finding parts to look like a normal animatronic, but only end up looking more messed up, resulting in molten freddy. 

5: FNAF 3

the entire story of freddy’s and the pizza place had become a big story and very talked about so they decided to take the abandoned freddy’s building from fnaf 2 and turn it into a horror attraction known as fazbear’s frights. they found spring trap trapped behind a wall and decide to add him to the attraction because oh wow he’s so cool and scary! michael gets a job at fazbear’s frights and tries to burn down the building on the last night with his father in it, however his attempt to kill him didn’t work and william manages to be set free. 

6: Freddy fazbear’s pizzeria simulator

henry decides to open a freddy’s location to lure the animatronics and end it all. hiring michael as the security guard, he finds animatronics showing up in the back lot. michael canonically collects all of the animatronics and henry burns the place down and kills everyone, including himself.

7: ultimate custom night

this is williams eternal hell. when you beat ultimate custom night, golden freddy slowly fades out. when william freed the souls, golden freddy stayed behind just so they could torture william forever.
