the type of visual novel that leaves you to look away shocked while covering your mouth, then shake your head in disbelief and come back to playing it even more invested in the plot.

As the other person said, Higurashi is sooo good. I haven't read it yet but I've heard that umineko is also amazing, very thought provoking. For psychological ones i have heard that saya no uta (song of saya) and shubahibi hiki (wonderful everyday) are very good but those two have some ero scenes. They're censored/cut in the steam version but yk.
