How?

In shadows of the night, a man forlorn,

His heart with guilt and torment deeply torn.

For he, in days of old, caused pain and strife,

To his dear love, his ex-fiancé, and their daughter's life.

He wonders at the grace she's shown, forgiving him,

Despite the tears, the hurt, the darkness, and the sin.

He doesn't feel he's worthy of her boundless grace,

He feels like he should be a memory she'd erase.

He knows he'll never mend the bonds that broke,

The love they once shared, in time, it had bespoke.

Yet still, he prays in silence for a chance to make amends,

Hoping for a day when love and mercy transcends.

He dreams of moments lost, of laughter and delight,

Of holding her again, beneath the stars at night.

He knows the odds are slim, the chances thin, and slight,

Yet in his heart, he yearns to make things right.

But in the depths of night, he weeps and sighs,

Beneath the weight of guilt, he slowly dies.
