Sorry for the lack of updates on KYL:TG! Progress has been going and I do have stuff in the works for it! This blog entry won't have any screenshots unfortunately, so you'll have to just trust my words.
Changes and new additions.
Timer and pressure
The game originally just had you go through cops and until you reach the goal and the thrill of the game was trying to get to the goal as quickly as possible, there wasn't any punishment to going slow. I've changed this, now there's a countdown that changes depending on intensity. The lower it goes, the more frequently do cops arrive and the more aggressive they get, killing them also increases their frequency and aggressiveness, this is called "pressure".
Changes to characters
For starters, I've removed Sonc's main ability, sprinting, in favour of dashing. Sprinting didn't really feel like an "ability", it felt more like a feature that the rest of the characters are missing. Dash allows you to go through longer distances in the air without wasting your double jump (that still stays) and it also gives you the option of dodging bullets. I also gave him (and am planning to give to TVH as well) the ability to slide, it didn't feel right that you can just stop and crouch immediately when moving and pressing the crouch key, +it adds more mobility. His gameplay still does feel a bit stiff, so I'll continue working on it until it feels just right.
I wanna change TVH and John's gameplay as well, I don't want any of the characters to be objectively "the best", I want the player to have options. I'm planning on giving John the ability to parry, but regarding TVH, I'm still not too sure, maybe I can give him the ability to parry as well? Would... somewhat make sense considering its head is a TV, and so... it has a strong head? Or something? I'm still unsure, feel free to post any ideas in the comments!
Gradings (achievements)
After each run, the game will give you a grading depending on your actions and which character you played. In the main menu you'll also have a section that lists all the gradings and which you achieved and which you haven't yet.
Settings, assist mode and radio
I want the settings to have 3 main things: Master Volume, Fullscreen option and Intensity. Intensity is basically difficulty, though there was originally an "Easy" difficulty, I've removed that. Didn't feel like it fit the game. However, there is an "assist mode" (heavily inspired by Celeste), which, if enabled, allows the players to enable and disable and edit stuff to make the game easier to play. You'll still get a grading at the end, though it will say "Assist Mode" right next to it and it won't save. I want this game to be challenging, but I also want it to be accessible, so I'm very glad to add this (I haven't yet but am planning to).
I also wanna add a radio in the main menu, which allows you to change the volume of the music, and to pick what music plays!
That's pretty much it for now, thanks for reading!
