Peat and smoke
Drenching every sipped drip
Reminding me of uptown jazz at 3 AM

Johnny Walker Black
Joe and I sat and watched the band
And watched the man flirt with his date
Drunken and slurred
In their own corner of the world

I remember walking back to Joe's apartment
Uptown and Lincoln Square making their Saturday night pilgrimage
Just before the sun reveals that their mistakes
And their own realities slowly drift back into focus

We got tacos and talkedĀ
about the punk scene we grew up in
about his job at a comedy club, and how happy he was

That was about 8 years ago.
Life has been long and strange
But I long for that moment
Of late night comradery
The smoke stained jazz club
and the quiet streets
bathed in the light of street lamps

A better time, and

A mind less fractured
