What's the only positive thing to come out of a pandemic?
I mean that's a controversial question in itself, right? It sounds ridiculous in this context to use the phrase "every cloud has a silver lining." As we've been trapped for almost a year in a dystopian reality, spending everyday watching distressing statistics and figures on the news splashed across your streaming devices and adapting to more isolating environments as well as craving some form of solace that just keeps etching further and further away with each Lockdown, what is there to actually look forward to?
Well, seeing as there has been naff all to do, I think it's the perfect time for creatives to disperse their ideas and sprinkle the miracle grow of inspiration to invent something amazing. As someone who absolutely adores music, I can't wait to see what 2021 is going to bring from artists who have laid dormant in hibernation during the pandemic. In fact, I think some of them are beginning to awaken from their slumber.
So, who am I going to start with?
ROYAL BLOOD
This Rock duo from Brighton have been wowing fans for most of the 2010s with their impressive skill set. I don't believe for a minute that anyone can listen to a Royal Blood track without getting addicted to the strong bass riffs. I certainly can't listen to one of their songs without wanting to tap my foot along to the drum beat...or discreetly nod my head up and down on the commute to work (everyone is guilty of this). When I listen to this band, I feel like I can hear elements of BRMC and Queens of The Stone Age. Every driver should have a Royal Blood album in their glove compartment.
Trouble's Coming was released in September 2020, 3 years after their last album. A punchy reminder that they're still here and they've got something incredible on the way. Fast forward to January 2021 and they tease us with new release; Typhoons. I've listened to this a few times on the many journeys to work and back and I haven't got tired of it yet. I'm looking forward to the day where we can all go to gigs again and I can get in the middle of the crowd for one of their sets if this is what they're releasing now, plus their older hits. Their third album also called Typhoons is going to be released in April.
