15 Random Facts bout Aqua Teen Hunger Force
15. There’s a 3 second blood rule, so basically there cannot be blood splattering out of any character for more than 3 seconds.. pretty self explanatory. and I think it might’ve annoyed the creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro so much that they just kinda made fun of it in the “Gee Whizz” episode..
14. The show's cancellation in 2015 was against the creators wishes. The adult swim president at the time Mike Lazzo just hates everything, so much it could just make its own video.... and was sick of the show and wanted to start fresh and give the network a new life after Aqua Teen was popping for so many years and rick and morty eventually became more relevant per se. Even though it had been doing well during season 11 people were still loving and watching it, Matt claimed he and Dave found out about the cancellation halfway through its last season from a friend at the animation studio. Honestly the way the season ended was perfect.. we have this deep saddening "final" episode quote unquote, and then in true Aqua Teen fashion 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' comes right after it to REALLY finish it off it's fucking hilarious. And now that Lazzo's gone it has since made a sneaky revival imagine how many seasons it would have now if it was never cancelled.
13. It’s gone through 5 different titles and theme songs, the ICONIC original intro by Schoolly-D was used in the first 7 seasons… with zero changes cause they were poor as dust. By season 8, they got a little bit bored and decided to switch things up a little bit. Not only did they make brand new intros for season 8 and onward, they gave the show 4 different names too. Season 8 was ‘Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1’ Season 9 was ‘Aqua Something You Know Whatever’ Season 10 was ‘Aqua TV Show Show’ made by Flying Lotus another fun fact. and the last season was ‘Aqua Teen Forever.’ Now that it’s returning for its 12th season very soon, do you think they’ll still be doing the name changes? We’ll find out.
12. There’s a very likely true fan theory that Aqua Teen is set in the same universe as the Brak Show and the Powerpuff girls. This one intrigues me a lot because I really love all 3 of these shows and it makes me think of my 5 year old self thinking all of my favourite shows exist in the same universe. In the Brak Show episode ‘Brakstreet’ there’s a short cameo of Meatwad a couple of times. And in the Aqua Teen episode ‘Intervention’ there’s a popup of Brak’s house. How are The Powerpuff Girls related though you might ask? It’s referenced in both of shows a few times. In Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters, during Frylock’s flashback with Phil Collins in the air tonight in the background, Meatwad has a Powerpuff girls parachute. The Aqua Teens are also seen in the background of the Powerpuff Girls Movie. And in the Aqua Teen episode ‘Universal Re-Monster’ The Plutonians actually wear bootleg Powerpuff Girls T-Shirts. And Brak and Zorak played a huge part of the promotion for the PPG movie. I believe it… These bitches all breathe the same air.. wait does this also mean Gorillaz is canon in Aqua Teen and The Brak Show too??? OH MY GO-
11. It’s been cancelled and revived several times. 3 to be exact. AQUA TEEN WILL NEVER BE CANCELLED AQUA TEEN WONT BE DISMANTLED damn right!! I swear its gonna become The Simpsons at one point and have like a gazillion seasons... let's hope it wont decrease in quality though. Plantasm wasn't that good though I have hope season 12 will be amazing.
10. Spacecataz was a failed pilot of an Aqua Teen spin-off series about the Mooninites and the Plutonians and their cheeky practical jokes. It was rejected by Adult Swim because executives felt there was little, if anything, that could be done with the characters. Instead, the 10 minute pilot was split up and included at the beginning of every episode of Season 3, replacing the Dr. Weird and Steve cold openings. I miss them though not gonna lie. The full episode is available as an extra on Disc 2 of the Aqua Teen Volume Four DVD Box Set and you can also watch it on YouTube. I wish it became a series though I love these buggers but I can see why it never did.
9. Fan favourite Mooninites were created after Matt Maiellaro remembered reading the legend of the absolutely garbo doodoo fart E.T. Atari video game from 1982. So basically.. it was such a commercial and critical dumpster fire that the company apparently buried millions of its cartridges in the desert. Some were dug up in 2014 though. At first, the Aqua Teen house was meant to be built on the burial ground of atari video games loosely based on the legend, and the mooninites were the ghosts of the atari games. But that backstory for the Mooninites’ felt too complex and had too much depth to be properly showcased in one 11-minute episode. Instead they came from the moon. And I am beyond upset they abandoned that idea that would’ve been cool.
8. Master Shake's voice actor Dana Snyder got the part from an drunk voicemail he sent to Dave Willis. To begin with, Dave and Matt just looked at this and thought “god he should sound like Christopher Walken” A leading candidate to voice Shake did sound like Christopher Walken and ALMOST got the part, cause other candidates sounded like superheroes... lame. Then madman Dana Snyder auditioned... oh boy.. after a drunken voicemail was sent to Dave Willis. He absolutely loved it. But unfortunately erased it accidentally and needed to play it to his boss. Dana did it again sober the next day but it just wasn’t the same so Dave MADE HIM repeat his crunk night out, recorded it again at 3 a.m. the next morning, and won the part. And thank God for that. Isn’t Dana’s voice just perfect for this bastard.
7. To create the sounds of Meatwad moving they brought in actual burger meat in the studio and rubbed it with rubber gloves on in the mic, and also brought in a milkshake for Shake's movements and wiggled it around for authentic drink sounds.
6. There was an Adult Swim 2007 April Fools Aqua Teen movie “premiere" So we all know Adult Swim LOVES doing April Fools jokes… But this one just went too far and upset and disappointed many Aqua Teen fans everywhere. There were advertisements trying to make people think they would premiere the movie a week before its release in theaters. Although the first few minutes of the movie did play normally, the rest of it was displayed in a small picture-in-picture box in the bottom left with the sound played over secondary audio programming, as the block ran episodes of Futurama, Family Guy, and even Aqua Teen itself with loud commercial pop ups, bumpers, and actual advertisements promoting the ATHF film. Basically their way of saying “lmao go pay for it yourself later loser” while many were punching the air cause they were too young to even watch it in the cinema. But the film eventually did air in full with no disruptions on Adult Swim for the first time on Sunday, the 30th of march 2008.
5. The Mouse and The Mask album has multiple cameos of Aqua Teen characters.. Oh I’m excited to talk about this one. In 2005, rapper MF DOOM and producer Dangermouse collaborated on a project… Danger Doom. They released the album The Mouse and the Mask including many references and cameos of adult swim characters at the time such as characters from The Brak Show, Space Ghost Coast To Coast, Harvey Birdman, Sealab 2021 and of course… Aqua Teen Hunger Force which is mentioned the most, I think the dude REALLY liked the show which makes me respect him even more to be honest. One of my favourite rappers yapping about adult swim has gotta be the best thing ever I love it, unlike melon screw him. We get some samples from episodes and also never before heard lines from Shake, Carl, Meatwad and the Mooninites. My favourite Aqua Teen detail would have to be the abusive voicemails Shake keeps sending to DOOM and Danger that play at the end of a few songs.. Getting Deja Vu?? From Number 8? And probably the ATHF song. If someone ever asks me to explain who the Aqua Teens are and what they do I'll just rap this. I see nobody mention this in Adult Swim or Aqua Teen videos I just thought it was necessary and I highly recommend it if you're into hip-hop cause it slaps.
4. Matt and Dave were writers for the show Space Ghost Coast to Coast and came up with the Aqua Teens for that originally. Living fast food items from a restaurant called Burger Trench tormenting Moltar and Zorak for thinking Burger Trench has gross food. Creator Mike Lazzo rejected it because it focused too much on the Aqua Teens and not enough on Space Ghost. But Matt and Dave were just so perplexed by these characters that they made that they wanted to give them their own show and change them…. A lot. And that’s how Aqua Teen Hunger Force became a show. After Aqua Teen aired and gained popularity the Coast to Coast episode finally got completed and aired in 2003.
3. The creators lied about the show to get it on the air. We all know when the show began the Aqua Teens were detectives but that really didn't last long and then the show just transitioned to just whatever the hell these characters get themselves into. This is because when the show was pitched, Dave and Matt wanted it to just have no real plot.. Just a show about talking food doing random things. However, Cartoon Network executives thought that was a shit idea and rejected so THEN they were like "Okay what if they solve mysteries?" and then it aired! And after a few episodes of the first season they finally felt comfortable enough to do whatever they wanted with it. And look where we are now.. just talking food doing random things.
2. The infamous Boston Mooninite Panic.. I know this is mentioned a lot, but its just such a significant event in Cartoon Network history that I can’t not mention it. To those who DON’T know. These LED lights of the Mooninites were put up in some US cities including Boston to promote the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie I’ve mentioned a thousand times already. The younger crowd didn’t really bat an eye because they were familiar with these characters. But they shut down BOSTON because certain people and cops had never seen some weird stoner cartoon, why just Boston? Why didn’t anyone else from other cities think something was wrong? Who knows? Anyway, cops thought these LEDs were Improvised Explosives which was a complete misunderstanding and it’s so silly… I’ve never understood why they thought such a thing. The dudes responsible were even arrested, FREE THEM!!?? So much shit happened I can't be bothered explaining it I bet you've heard it THAT many times anyway.
1. There was an unfinished episode about the Boston incident: After Dave and Matt heard this news, they were just laughing their fucking asses off in front of their TV screens, so much that they wanted to make an episode about it after the whole fiasco sometime during season 5 after the movie dropped. However, the animation was never finished because it was pulled by Turner Legal to avoid further controversy surrounding the incident. It was leaked online in 2015 by some guy. And it’s the only known episode of the series that was never released. You can find it somewhere on archive.org
