Horror story (It was a school assignment btw)

Beware, I had to cut out SO MUCH because I made seven pages and my teacher put a four page limit :p

Anyways, here it is:

Sollie sighed as she ran her fingers through her blond hair, it was oddly greasy. She could have sworn that she had recently showered, but she could have forgotten so it’s fine. She’ll just do it later that afternoon.

She was at the edge of the woods, on a walk. She felt a little stressed. At least the cool winter air helped soothe her nerves. It was early december, winter started soon. How lovely.

Breathing out a puff of white, she looked at the forest. Scary place. She wondered what she could find in it. She was a bit excited. Maybe she’d find something expensive! Wouldn’t be that hard, surely.

She nodded at herself, confident in her new plan. She marched into the forest. Sollie decided to go wherever she felt she should go, it’d be smart.

She let her legs lead her, and honestly the route felt too similar. How odd. Sollie shrugged, surely it meant nothing.

She frowned as she found something.. Stained on the snow. It was dark red, how odd was that?

She then gripped her inky hoodie, looking away. What if someone’s hurt?

But what if she’s the only one who could find them?

Gulping, Sollie followed the dark stains, not wanting to leave anyone for dead. Eventually, thank goodness, she found a clearing. However, something was inside.

It was a corpse, pale face with messed up brown hair almost covering its eyes. Sollie wanted to puke. It didn’t stink like she thought it would, it was almost like it was…

She stepped back and pulled out her phone, dialing 911. She felt her stomach drop when it wouldn’t go through. Looking back at the body, she knew she’d never find it again if she left the scene.

She breathed in, and let a deep breath out. She had to do this.

Stepping closer to the corpse, she analyzed the body and racked her brain for whatever information on causes of death she could think of. She tapped her cheek, remembering a show, law and order?, talking about how death by blunt object was… She looked back at the body (When did she stop looking at it?) and frowned. What showed death by blunt object again?

She stepped over it and looked at it's head, and, just as she guessed, there was a dent in the head. The hair was matted with fresh blood, and Sollie would refuse to admit that the smell was nice if you asked her about the scene afterwards. She would be lying.

She looked around for any sign of the weapon, and she smiled as she saw something a bit further away from the body. It was shiny, and covered in the same red stain the show was covered in. She ran over and felt a stroke of pride as Sollie found a metal bat. It was sleek, and as she grabbed it she noticed that it felt familiar in her hands. The criminal must have been her age, then! Good to know…

Sollie casually leaned her bat over her shoulder and looked around. She grinned as she found footsteps leading somewhere and, after checking if there was a difference between the shoe size of the victim and prints, began following the prints of the criminal.

Sollie frowned as eventually, she came across a lake. It looked abandoned, a dock placed on her left. She saw someone there, someone who looked familiar. She ran over and as she stepped onto the creaky doc, she gasped. It was her mom, short blond hair with her usual tan cardigan over her gray sweater. “Mom?” Sollie asked softly, stepping closer. She didn’t even register the thump from her dropping the bat. Her mother perked up and stood, looking at her daughter. “Oh, hun! I didn’t realize you’d want to come back. You never come back to the scenes.”

“What?” Sollie asked, tilting her head. Her mother looked confused as well.

“Um, right. You uh- I guess you’re just too good at pretending honey! You should go to acting school!”

“..Pretending?” She asked, she’d been asking a lot of questions. She didn’t really.. Understand the current situation.

“...Um.. Yea? Hun, you’ve been killing off all your trashy boyfriends for a while.” Mom then sighed and let her clasped hands fall to her lap. “You’ve always been my strong little girl, but Sollie.. You’re not good at hiding things. So your mom has been helping you!”

Sollie swallowed down the bile rising up her throat. “... So- wait. Why- doesn’t this make you just as much of a criminal as me?” Mom chuckled. “And?”

Sollie blinked, staring at her. She felt.. Sick. “This isn’t right! We’re- we’re hurting innocent people! Do you feel no empathy?”

Mom shook her head. “Go home.”

“What?”

“You need sleep, hun. It’s Monday tomorrow.” Mom said matter-of-factly. Sollie didn’t know what else to say, so she did as told.

She wasn’t sure what to feel. Was she truly at fault for this? Was her mother mostly at fault? Sollie didn’t remember committing such awful crimes, but does that lower her responsibility for them? Those families, they never get to see the victims anymore. Those mothers must have spent hours waiting for their son’s.

And siblings. How would they feel, knowing that their last words with eachother’s could have meant nothing? Sollie shivered.

Sollie felt sick, it was all her fault. She knew it. She blinked, realizing she was at the border of the forest now. She frowned. She..

She wouldn’t go home. She has no right to go home. She needs to go to the police. She needs to turn herself in. She must atone for her wrongdoings.

She dug her hands into the pockets of her light jacket and walked over to the station. She hoped she remembered the route.

Her shoes padded down the light layer of snow as she swiped non-existent dust off her dark brown sweatpants. She then smiled as she turned the corner and found the exact area she was looking for. Thank goodness!

She opened the glass double doors, glad that she wore gloves, and stepped inside. There was a receptionist, a short woman with dark brown hair styled in a wolf cut. How cute!

Sollie walked over and smiled at her, hoping it wasn’t odd. “Hi! Um.. Has there been a recent missing case?” She asked, not entirely sure why that’s the first question she asked. But, she did need to know if the family knew yet.

“Hmm..” The receptionist hummed, clicking on her computer and clicking around. “No, there doesn’t seem to be a recent case. Are you here to report one?”

“Um. Technically. Do you know about Flin Doe?” Sollie asked softly, worried.

“Ummm- Oh! Yes! We got a call from his mother a bit ago! But, he’s back home! He must have forgotten to text you! Now, go home. You shouldn’t waste the time of the police, you know!” She said, chuckling.

Sollie frowned but, considering she didn’t know how else to confess, she left the pristine building.

Sollie walked out and looked up at the night sky. She frowned and just made the trek home, the crunching of snow doing little to ease her mind. She opened the door and looked at the living room, no one. She quietly walked out of the room and found the stairs, climbing up and rushing to her room.

She looked at it, messy and honestly a little disorganized. Sollie sighed. She.. This wasn’t fair. This wasn’t just. She had to do something, separate herself from town. What if.. She left the state? Sollie wondered how that would work, but she’s sure she could manage.

So, determined to atone for her crimes, Sollie ran over to where she left her backpack and emptied it. She then, excited, ran all over and stuffed her bag with needed objects.

She soon strolled downstairs and exited the house.

Sollie took a deep breath, feeling the biting chill down her throat. She then looked around her, empty. Like a ghost town. She started to jog all the way to the edge of the woods, a bit further away from where she originally was.

Sollie shook her head, refusing to stay in the past. She had something very, very important to do. And she can’t let herself be distracted. She rushed into the woods.

Running, she tried to find any area that she could take shelter in. She didn’t want to ruin all her chances of survival! Thankfully, she found a small cabin nestled deep into the dark woods. Score!

She rushed over to the honestly deteriorating building and grabbed the knob. She took a deep breath before gently turning it and opening the door and-

CREAK

She looked up just as one of the wood boards used to support the building fell right on her. She hissed, feeling the burning on her face. Sollie wasn’t sure if her face was wet or if it was just the warm pain blossoming from her head.

She tried to climb out, hot tears streaming down her pale cheeks as she felt more and more boards collapse onto her body. Eventually, after ten hellish minutes of torture, she succumbed to her fate and closed her eyes. Easing herself into the painful sleep of death. Perhaps, this is life’s form of justice. Making sure she could no longer terrorize the world again.
