Christina Crawford — Not a revenge story

Christina Crawford is one of the first people to bring such great public awareness to the topic of child abuse and normalizing the use of psycho therapy (talk therapy). She witnessed abuse at the hands of her adoptive mother, Hollywood darling Joan Crawford, who had a drinking problem, and was likely a victim of child abuse herself. Christina wrote the memoir 'Mommie Dearest' after her mothers passing because she loved her neurotic mother despite all of her abusive behaviour, but needed to take the reigns on her own life.

Authorities and all of Hollywood held the open secret that Joan Crawford was an abusive mother, but could never find a reason to aid the children lest they be pushed away by Joan. Chris Crawford, the second adopted child to Joan, spent the first twelve years of his life tied to his bed out of gods-guess-is-as-good-as-yours. Chris and Christina Crawford were left out of the will of Joan for unknown reasons, but it is stressed Christina did not write the book to make back any money she may've felt she was owed.

Other (younger) children that Joan adopted and did not witness the severity of the abuse say that they love Joan Crawford, and thought 'Mommie Dearest' of a hit-piece, but this just adds to how important it is we can have open, pro-recovery framed dialogues on such a heavy topic. Christina Crawford has left great responses to their frustration, as she is truly admirable.

Chris Crawford is/was a private man.

Christina Crawford, until this day, uses her words to bring awareness to the topic of child abuse and other societal injustices. I hope we can all think of her as an activist, and not just a victim.
