Sandalus niger (aka The Cedar Beetle!)
I was super lucky to find this boy this week. Cedar beetles are actually parasites similar to some wasps! Their grubs burrow into the ground below a tree and find cicada nymphs to parasitize until they're ready to pupate, spooky!
Here he is on the jar I caught him in.
Decided to carry him around a bit and he stayed with me all the way to class
He isn't the most interesting looking guy on the planet but even duller looking beetles can be so beautify when you look closer. His membranous hindwings and antennae are so beautiful! Im so happy I got to meet him!

Such a beautiful creature. I do love bugs! They're little loveable pests. I just wish old woman Josie would stop eating all the beetles I catch...
