Finished reading Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk

first of all i kno i said i was gonna update after every chapter

unfortunately it wasnt that easy orz

i kept forgetting 4 the most part or due 2 where i was reading i would finish one chapter but not have space [or wifi] 2 just grab my computer and blog so i would just move on 2 the next chapter. at some point i realized i had already read thru so many chapters i would either have 2 do a lightning round or just finish the book and review it at the end. considering my "currently reading" tab has been changed, its safe 2 assume which option i chose lolol.

so, Haunted. tbh it wasnt 2 bad of a book. i was expecting a lot worse in the stories, and dont get me wrong most of the content in em was disgusting but by the way i heard so many people saying that the book "starts bad and just gets worse" i expected something more terrible. again, thats not 2 say the stories werent disgusting, they absolutely were, but a lot of them were at the same level of disgusting as the rest. a few were even Not That Bad but im desensitized 2 a lot when it comes 2 horror stories. most of the stories did make me feel a little uneasy, which i imagine was what Chuck Palahnuik meant 2 happen.

the book is a collection of short stories sandwiched between 24 chapters of a complete narrative. overall i though the story itself was interesting, and the ambiguous ending is a good way 2 tie it off. a few of the short stories were almost difficult 2 sit thru, and i would not recommend this book 2 someone just starting out w/ horror books. the entirety of the horror in the book was manmade, despite references 2 ghosts and the supernatural and the Countess Foresight's story, which did center around manmade horror in the end. the book is about ego and selfishness - at least thats what i got out of it. i wont say 2 much on the subject 2 avoid spoilers but i find Mr. Whittier a very fascinating person. theres a good amt of analysis that can go into his character, especially given his condition. Ms. Clark as well. are they good people? Ms. Clark - debatable, likely no. Mr. Whittier - no. as someone who enjoys a good revenge story, i can see myself rereading the matchmaker's poem.

anyway, ill b starting my next book, If Hell Is What You Want by Rafael Marmol, tmrw morning. i quickly flipped thru the pages when i pulled it out the bookshelf and right after the introduction page is a "Trigger Warning" page, so that'll b fun. its a collection of short stories, most/all from r/NoSleep. as in the author posted most/all of the stories in the book on there b4 deciding 2 partner w Velox Books 2 publish em into a physical book. cant want 2 see how this goes. i wont promise ill update after every chapter/story, ill just try 2 update whenever i remember 2 so see yall in the next one (-3-)
