I'm trying to give my lil bro an internet experience more similar to what I grew up with than the seemingly endless advertisements and ceaseless-mindless-stimulation games that he gets on his tablet.
Currently he's learning his letters, so here's a compilation of games that I thought would help him with that. It's really depressing to go through page after page of flash games that just won't work anymore :,( I know there are a few flash recreations, but how would one even go about using a modern recreation on a flash game for a site from two decades ago? Most of these are from old-games.com because what a gold mine!!
Here's what I found:
- A to Zap! - Old PC Game
- ABC Fun Keys - Old PC Game
- ABCya, PreK Letters Games
- BabyType - Old PC Game (more focused on typing than letters, but he has a LOT of interest in the keyboard and using it)
- Curious George Learns Phonics - Old PC Game (originally a CD-ROM, now an online download which should work on windows 11. will see!!)
- Fisher Price: Ready for School - Old PC Game
- Fun School - Old PC Game (also involves numeracy)
- JumpStart Kindergarten Reading - Old PC Game
- Keyboard Letters Game - JS Game
- Kids on Keys - Old PC Game
- Learn the Alphabet - Old PC Game
- Letter Dance Party - PBS
- Mario Teaches Typing - Old PC Game (ONLINE no download needed :D)
- Phonics - Minecraft Mod (a minecraft mod that teachers you letters and sounds!!! so fun!!!)
- Reader Rabbit - Old PC Game (ONLINE except I'm still not sure if i trust that specific link yet)
- Starfall because of course I'm going to include starfall
- Spectacular Spelling Play - PBS
- Word Detector - CMG
Honorable mention to Owl & Mouse's Learn Letters (and Letter Sounds) - both are flash-based and therefore dead, but the site alludes to a download link existing at some point in time. If only!!!
