the importance of being earnest (play by oscar wilde)

Today I saw The Importance of Being Earnest

The importance of being earnest is a play written by Oscar Wilde. I think Oscar Wilde is pretty cool and I liked the picture of dorian gray, which he wrote, so I was so excited to hear that one of his plays had a showing in my area!

The story follows a man by the name of John, who pretends to be his made-up brother Earnest when he is in the city, and keeping true to his real name when he goes back home to his family in the country. His friend Algernon finds out about what who he thought was Earnest has been doing, and visits John's family in the country, pretending to be Earnest.

There's more to it than that, but, you know.

I thought it was very funny! I really liked the play. I wasn't sure what to expect going in, because even though I had plans to read the script, I never got around to it. The play wasn't super serious and there was a lot of humour that I could understand! :) one of my concerns was that because it was written in the 19th century, I wouldn't understand what anyone was saying because they all spoke so differently back then. When I was reading TPODG, sometimes I would need to reread paragraphs to really understand what was  said! But, in the importance of being earnest, that was not the case! Although there were a few words I didn't know, everything was really easy to follow.

I also thought the crew did a great job on the sets! I had fairly close seating and so I saw a few of the details. It was really impressive! :) I hope if I ever get to help out on a production, I'd be doing set work, but idk if that will happen. For some scenes, they had a circular rug on the floor. I wonder where they get stuff like that,, furniture and all. It's probably from those second-hand stores  I would think, and I wonder how much modification is done to it! It's all really cool to think about, I think.

Anyways, if anyone else gets the opportunity, I think they should watch this play too. Another concern I had, because it's a fairly long play, was that I would get bored or tired, but no! It grabbed my attention all the way through. The jokes were easy to understand, it was  very silly and not super serious, it was refreshing not to have something with an unfortunate ending or big important deep metaphors that make sense at the end.
