Flip phones

Flip phones.. how did they become so iconic? From the starting age of teen pop, Totally Spies, Britney Spears, to the rise of y2k fashion in our modern life. Flip phones though not often used, are as iconic as newer phones. 

Flip phones became popular in America in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Where the rise of spaces and aesthetics such as MySpace, scene, and emo. With it came old brick phones. But what was most used. Flip phones. Flip phones you could call, chat, and if it was connected to the internet, text.

 A lot of uprising artist such as Destiny Child and Britney Spears was eating up the market of the new age. They set fashion trends, led the teen pop scene, and most importantly made teen girls feel empowered for newer times. Girls were going to the mall, buying fashion, and getting to know people online, everything was so different. There is a lot of resemblance in the movies as well as shows at the time being iconic movements to this romanticized version of a flip phone with not only its aesthetic often featuring them or having similar things;

They brought a whole new Era to the flip phones. As well as companies adding music players, the internet, and more. Making it more popular. Making it something that had become so popular everyone wanted it.

Though now flip phones are mostly only used in Japan and Korea, flip phones are back on the rise. Especially with the Samsung Flip. Though it's quite pricy and a starting price of 800 and a higher price of 1000 or more. Some good alternatives however are docomo. Docomo is the iconic company that made most of all of the aesthetic or cute flip phones we know. However now they often only make them for Japanese people as most of them only use 3g, which American internet companies stopped using completely, which makes it difficult to get only good phones. (Though if you live outside of Canada or the USA it's most likely you have 3g so look for your provider). Though I don't prefer the 4g flip phones because they tend to have fewer decorations than their younger counterparts, and the US flip phones don't have that same vibe, they have a good variety. (When looking for Japanese flip phones make sure it says it's unlocked! This means that it also uses English and when you receive it it should be in English from the get-go). One other alternative is Korean flip phones. Unlike Japanese flip phones, they are extremely hard to get. Most of them don't have an English setting and the good ones are often only sold in Korea. The home of Samsung recently made a new flip phone but it's not going out of the country sadly. So the best way of getting one is either to ask someone to buy it for you and see if it has an English setting, learn Korean, go to Korea and look yourself, or look for alternatives. 

Though sadly they are made very well in America the rise of Y2K has pushed flip phones and has pushed companies such as Samsung to make them. Luckily, though they are expensive, they are getting a new drive to make them. And who knows. Maybe you'll find a cute flip phone you'll like?
