READ if you use Discord as a filehost (or are planning to)

TLDR: Discord will likely no longer allow long-term filehosting. I know a lot of people use discord to host their image files (me included) for convenience reasons, but unfortunately this means a lot of websites/blogs/etc will be rendered defunct as as far as images go T_T

If you're currently using Discord as a filehost for anything, I strongly recommend moving to a different filehost and/or archiving your site on archive.org.

Why is this happening?!!?! 

Discord was never intended to be used as a filehost, and hosting images uses up a lot of bandwidth and resources (not to mention expensive). They probably just want to prevent people from using private servers as a filedump. It sucks, and it's really inconvenient if you're hosting a lot of files there, but it's understandable as to why they're doing it. (especially considering how frowned upon hotlinking is already.)

What about images in my servers? Will they disappear?

Nope. This only affects images hotlinked to outside of discord. Anything uploaded natively in servers that STAYS within those servers is fine.

Here are some good filehosting alternatives:

(do not use Imgur or Neocities for hotlinking/filedumping, it is against their terms of service.)

a resource that lets you download all the images from a site. helpful if you don't want to go through all your stuff and download images individually.

i already mentioned this one earlier but its importance and usefulness really cannot be understated. PLEASE archive your sites for the love of god.

feel free to comment other knowledge/resources on this topic if you have any to share, and maybe let other people know too. a lot of stuff is at risk of disappearing because of this so it's pretty important word gets out I think :P
