list of obscure comfy anime you should check out (updated)

hi i'm comet and if your reading this and looking for a good comfy anime to watch, i have made a list of obscure comfy anime you should check out. anime is really popular nowadays especially with today's kids so i really wanted to shine a spotlight on those obscure rare gems that really deserve to get more attention. here they are:

goldfish warning! - this anime is a slapstick slice-of-life school comedy made by toei animation. it ran for only 1 year from 1991-1992 until it was replaced by the more popular sailor moon, where the anime got cameos in a few of the first season episodes if you didn't know. it's about a rich 14-year-old girl named chitose who used to be a snobby rich girl that attended a prestigious academy tokai no gakuen until the day of her downfall occurred when her father died and she is kicked out of the academy while being depised by her former friends with her only remaining possessions being her pink dress and her pet pink talking goldfish named gyopi-chan. with no other choice, she is forced to attend inaka no chugakko, a poor run-down but happy school that is not only attended by very happy, childish and normal students but farm animals as well. there she meets wapiko, a young girl who is very happy most of the time spending her days playing and making everyone happy who suddenly befriends her and gyopi-chan. suddenly, her family's attorney attempts to steal gyopi-chan but wapiko stops him from snatching her new best friend. then it turns out the attorney has been hiding chitose's inheritance. does this mean she can go back to the prestigious academy that she's always hoped for? nope. not anymore. she instead buys the run-down school with the money and attempts to turn it into her own prestigious academy to compete with that of her former best friend turned rival's. however the students doesn't want to be forced to act like proper ladies and gentlemen and you can probably guess what happens from here. this show is full of daily slice-of-life slapstick shenanigans that mostly take place in a school. while this show does have a lot of comedy, it also has it's share of drama and romance too. wapiko is my favorite character that steals the spotlight along with gyopi-chan, centering on their daily adventures much to the chagrin of chitose, who can be unlikable sometimes throughout the show but has a heart of gold most of the time. the art style is super adorably cute, the animation is fluid and bouncy and the stories are okay to watch. my only flaw is that some episodes of the anime can get obnoxious to watch sometimes. other than that, i recommend it to those who love a super cute old-school 90s slice-of-life school life anime show and can handle obnoxious scenes, especially sailor moon fangirls. otherwise if you're not into stuff like this, this next recommendation should suit you.

atashinchi - this anime comes from shin-ei animation, famous for doraemon and shin chan, which aired from 2002 to 2009 for a whopping hundreds of episodes along with a brief revival from 2015 to 2016. it also spawned 2 movies, one of which is made to be shown in 3d. it's a slice-of-life show that centers around the daily life of the tachibana family. father is your usual salaryman who is at work half the time, mother is a caring yet frugal and hard-working housewife who tries to save a lot of money and keep the house in a nice, clean state, mikan is your typical teenage girl who goes to a no-uniforms-required high school but is easy-going, relaxed and a "having fun" type of girl and yuzuhiko is the smart, quiet teenage son who gets annoyed by his family sometimes but is more outgoing at school. the art style is unique, the characters are likable, the animation is cartoony, the stories are relaxing and funny to watch and best of all, it's never too boring or tiring to watch. some episodes also take place inside mikan and yuzuhiko's schools meaning there are lots of mikan and yuzuhiko's friends you can like and relate with. my favorite character would be yuzuhiko, because this character relates to me the most in real life. recommended for people who want a quiet yet not too obnoxious slice-of-life anime that feels like a day in the real life of a modern-day japanese family.

uchi no 3 shimai - this anime also comes from toei animation, except that this anime is made with flash animation which used to be popular back in the 2000s decade. the flash animation was made by studio animal which was based in south korea, basically making it a japan-korea co-production. it aired from 2008 to 2010 with a total of 102 episodes before briefly coming back with a 15-minute short film in 2019. this slice-of-life anime is unlike any other anime toei has produced, having unique backgrounds drawn with crayons and vibrant colors and the cutest hello kitty-like character designs like you never seen before. it's about the daily life of a mother who tries to take care of 3 playful yet weird daughters. the first daughter fuu is the oldest that likes to play make-believe such as fairy princesses and is the leader of the younger sisters, the second daughter suu has a free-spirited nature which sometimes lands her in trouble and the third daughter chi is a very hungry baby who will stop at nothing to eat as much as she can the moment her tummy rumbles. also in the show is a father who is also a salaryman and spends almost half the episodes staying at home and playing with the daughters and mopsy, the family's pet rabbit. each episode centers around the shenanigans and everyday lives of the girls from the mother's point-of-view. who said anything about every mother being a strict, nagging one? in this show, she sometimes also joins in the fun with her daughters too, usually ending with her smiling or having an uneasy feeling. the stories are okay to watch, the animation by late 2000s flash animations standards is good most of the time, most of the jokes are funny and is therefore one of the best animated sitcoms of it's time. i highly recommend if you want a show that has super cute characters, is slice-of-life and something to laugh at.
