a tree grows in brooklyn

holy shit this book is amazing. im only 52 pages in, but i've never had a story make me feel so much emotion before. every character is alive, the city of Brooklyn is breathing in the book, and everything feels so real. in class we were told that it serves as a pseudo-biography for the author, Betty Smith, but oh my god she is a wordsmith.

i am falling in love with reading as we speak.
