i hate american ereaders

so my habit is constantly looking more and more into things i want and then never actually pulling the trigger into buying them... and then just buying things that are on sale instead but not enjoying them as much.

connected to that, i'm thinking of selling my kobo libre. i got it on sale with great intentions of reading more but... just never really did. it's a bit too big and heavy for me to be comfortable reading with it in bed. now i could deal with that perhaps, but i hate its proprietary software. it's so slow and 90% of it is about selling you more books instead of what you actually have downloaded.

now i got kobo because the only other thing i could find was kindle and man i did not want the amazon one. honestly, how sad is it that two massive corps have completely dominated to the point i cant even find any western niche companies... but i found that you can order other non-american brand ones that actually seem good. the main problem is that very few retailers will sell to canada...

the main one i'm looking at is the xiaomi moaan inkpalm 5. the main "problem" with it is sideloading and menus being in mandarin but neither should be problems for me. i love that it's the shape of a phone... i'm way too used to the feeling of a phone in my hand. even when i'd try bringing my ereader with me places, id always just grab my phone instead because it felt better to hold. so i really do need something that shape.

the boox palma is cool but way too... "trying to be a replacement smartphone", so probably too distracting. and the hisense are really cool but way too expensive...

anyways just some ranting and thinking ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i just want to read more books. i read so much like, articles and fanfic and other things but never enough novels...
