Songs not in the Barbie movie

Herself and I recently watched the Barbie movie. Good film! We quite enjoyed it!

There was a bit where Barbie was traveling, open convertible, and blasting “Closer to Fine” by the Indigo Girls.

Damn, but when that album dropped it became SOUNDTRACK for me! And the memories came flooding back as I sang every line along with Barbie lol!

I recall performing that song and others from that album MANY times. By myself at times, and if I could wrangle my friends Missy and Kristen to a gig, with them more lovingly treating the singing than I ever could and in perfect harmony.

That whole album is so damn good. It’s like therapy dealing with love, loss, overcoming addiction, overcoming intellectualizing everything. (I know, I still do that, but if you think I’m badnow, you should’ve seen me when I was younger and ‘knew everything’.

Today I out on the entire album and it washed over me like a long lost lover.

Tye most devastating things about listening to beloved music from decades ago is how some songs hit different when you have those decades of life experience behind you.

There’re just some songs that I LOVED at the time but had no real context for understanding.

Sure, the words all made sense, but with the long years of living, they resonate so much harder.

This song – Love’s Recovery – hit hard.

As I listened and sang along with every word by wrote, I started contemplating the long dark roads both my wife and I traveled before meeting one another.  Eing broken, healed, and broken again in the cycle of life.

I thought on the dark roads we’ve traveled together and all the changes over the decades, and just how DEEPLY IN LOVE we still are today,

She and I aging ‘not-so-gracefully’ as we drag down all of those roads traveled and untraveled continuously together, or coming back to one another time and again.

It’s a miracle, really.

And so now …

… I’m a crying mess.

In a good way. In the best of ways.

I actually have a couple Indigo Girls CDs, and I don't buy many. Their 'Closer to Fine' was the first thing you heard on the disk jockey demo I was putting out to stations at the time. Love those gals X)
