Watched Don't Breathe, my BF suggested, and personally I can see why some people like it?
(also dont watch this movie if you're squeemish)
The non-spoiler-y summary is basically, three friends break in and rob a blind man, they're kind of terrible people and its a given, what they don't realize though is that they might be outmatched.
I would really recommend the first half of this movie to anyone who likes a heist thriller! The second-half kind swings hard and misses...gruseomly.
It carried a lot of suspense and tension, and many points I was grimacing because I knew this shit was not going to end well. The actor who plays the blindman, Stephen Lang did a great job of making me feel intimidated and uncomfortable. They really worked around the concept of him knowing what goes where in his house, and what not. There are a lot of plot holes, and there's a later plot-twist that really ruins the movie for me. like it really takes me out of it. I was absolutely disgusted.
(spoilers kind of)
I would've liked seeing this movie being about terrible people doing terrible things and getting their come-up'ns, but the plot twist really does change everything. Basically, toward the half-hour, forty-five-minute mark they find a girl in the basement, which they deliberate on to save, which later Rocky finds out, that she was being used to make the blind Veteran another daughter after she accidently killed her in a car crash. The veteran accidently kills her on their attempted escape and takes Rocky as his new captive. I really don't like that this next scene was in the movie, I don't even think I can talk about it here, it was so visceral, and I watched it alone, and I felt so disgusted and afraid. All I'm going to say is that it involves a turkey baster, and it was really not necessary and added nothing to the plot.
It left really not caring for the ending, and I felt that Alverez should have sticked to the original follow through. I'm not a personal fan of the choices he made with the end of the film; I don't think he needed to villainize the blind-man. Horror films are meant to make you feel uncomfortable, (with-in reason of course) and meant to make you ask questions about your morality, I think the twist doesn't work, because it doesn't force you to ask any questions. It's just shocking for the sake of being shocking. It took all meaning away from the movie I guess, and I really just didn't care for it after that.
I'd personally give it 5/10, for a great first half of the film, and a 0 for the second half.
