as slow melodies
sing behind me
i hear a voice
delicate and
feathery, harmonizing
alongside the rest
peeking out from
behind the lyrics
being softly recited
in my head...
but for it is
a voice imagined
false and fabricated
in a desperate attempt
to hear it once again
to drown out
the ringing in my ears
plagued as a result
of my unconsoled yearn
for you
and the you i’ll never have.
