I'm currently taking a webpage development class, and there are a few students in there who play chess during class, one senior specifically. My relationship with this senior has been iffy, but at the moment we're doing well. he's started to see my potential in the class, and I've learned that working with him isn't so bad.
i never learned how to play chess, most people I know are able to play because they learned it in the gifted and talented class (still waiting for my invite ack). However I found watching him play very interesting. Which, of course, made me want to learn.
yesterday, i made plans to spend my fourth block in this teachers classroom (me and the webpage teacher have a great relationship, one I could talk about for hours) I planned to spend the class period talking to the teacher and stuff like that, but she was absent that day and had a sub. So I instead sat with my friend who came with me in the corner. The senior who I had been watching play chess obviously came over and talked to me for a minute and eventually I decided I was going to ask him to teach me how to play chess.
And he did. I was honestly scared he wouldn't really want to teach me, but he got really excited and played a game with me to help me learn how to pieces move and the objective of the game. It was really fun, and confusing. He obviously won in the end, however he told me that I can practice some more on this website and that after I get the rules of the game down, he will show me some strategies to win the game.
This feels like such a little thing to get so happy over, but I couldn't care less. I finally know how to play chess, and I've made a new friend.
