culturing myself with movies, a distraction (pt 2)

today, i finished watching miss congeniality. i mostly picked it because i'd seen that other sandra bullock movie where she's a federal agent, and figured it was funny that there was another one. i went in with no expectations at all, and found myself middling between 'this is pretty generic' and 'there's some heart in this, somewhere.' while the movie doesn't make any strides in being original in any sense, it's at least a decently fun brain-off watch. there isn't much to say about it because there's already movies that do the 'hijinks ensue as agent goes undercover with an unfamiliar cover' thing better. i wouldn't watch it again, but i wasn't actively bored. none of the jokes are absurd enough for the movie to feel slapstick, but they're also not witty enough for the movie to be anything more than a shlocky early-00s comedy. i think i'll just watch white chicks again if i want a similar premise but executed better.
