sparkstember 2023 day 9

terminal jive!!!

this is the first album of sparkstember that i haven't listened to beforehand. after angst, that's gonna be the norm. i actually really liked this album! i kinda grew up listening to disco-y music that my mom liked in the car, i didn't really think this was as jarring of a change as people back in 1980 thought. of course by the 80's disco was dying out after the white man grabbed hold of it, so yk. nice that sparks snuck their way in. i liked the combo of the synths and the guitars that were missing from no. 1. overall very autism to me. i especially like ron in this era. he's so me :3

faves: when i'm with you (when i when y- me when i'm not with you. in all seriousness though the lyrics on this are sooo relatable and i love the instrumentation too. (so obviously i really like the instrumental version) there's one instrument or synth noise that reminds me of cats, which debuted on the west end in 1981... andrew lloyd webber is a secret sparks fan???), just because you love me, rock n roll people in a disco world (beatles moment), noisy boys, stereo, the greatest show on earth (i hate the greatest showman, glad this is in my life now to compensate), even young girls is good (like i know the lyrics are pedophilic but! to me it feeeeels like this is not from russ and ron's perspective...).

like i said before, i love ron here. him plugging his ears is so mecore. i wish i could see more details in it though!!! it's so dark... russ is funny. i like his hair in this era, the close (or at least closer than introducing) cropped mullet is always a winner style in my book.

in when i'm with you, i love how after the chorus it immediately pulls you back into a verse. it's like such a perfect love song in that way, it's like, keep looking at me, keep listening until i think of something to say (where we get let go into the interlude).
