"DNI if you're racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc." Okay but what does that mean exactly? Many people have different meanings for those words and what they think makes someone a bigot. Can I still interact if I like offensive jokes? Can I still interact if I criticize groups or think it's okay for others to do so? We can all agree hate is bad, but are jokes and criticism okay? Though I should probably assume the type of people to make DNIs probably think all three counts.
Just realized how unhelpful basic DNI is

idk if this counts as basic dni criteria but ive heard (through some friends) of a lot of nsfw artists on for example twitter saying minorsdni/mdni and it literally did not work at all, if anything it only attracted more minors

a lot of "minors dni" people interact with minors a lot, which I find stupid, if you don't want them to interact with you, why do you interact with them?

On the Topic of this, I get basic dni but at the same time i'm like "I think bad people are going to do the opposite of what you want them to do" like i don't think a homophobe would stop interacting

Yeah I get that, I mainly leave the basic DNI in just as a show of basic stuff I would like to avoid as much as I can but overall I'm fine with letting anyone in as long as they're like???? Not being weird????? I don't hesitate to just hit the block button in those cases.

i dont think DNI lists ever work, especially on sites where i really cant be expected to investigate everyones account before making an interaction. i tend to assume most of the people id interact with wouldnt like bigots in the first place, and i cant imagine bigots would turn around and scamper out the door when they learn who they oppress dont want them around.
it seems like a lot of younger people use DNIs in an attempt to make their spaces feel more safe, but ive only ever seen people complain they dont work. people on the internet can lie, or can hide their intentions, and most rules in a DNI can very easily be ignored without the person who wrote it knowing (especially if its a rule like... not being allowed to interact if you like a piece of media??)

Frrr like I think people are wayyyy too vague on their DNI like I understand stuff like "don't interact with me if you're under 18" cuz wherever but when you get vague on things like what you think is racism and homophobia then that doesn't really help no one.

that's common sense, just as its common sense that they wouldn't want to interact with you either based on your identity. Again I don't really see the point of dni lists when they are isolative and also generally feed off of "common sense"

DNI lists really trap you in a filter bubble where you are unable to see things from another perspective. I can understand if you have people that are genuinely gross/make you uncomfortable on your DNI list, but seeing many people put political parties on them is disheartening. Semi-unrelated to my original point, but who cares what your political party/stuff like that is anyway? Why can't we just compromise and get along?? DNI lists are creating their own kinds of bigotry and biases, LMAO!

Also, people who are on DNI lists will interact anyway. It's like telling someone about to steal your money "No."

Too many people treat block buttons as a last resort. I feel like half the drama I see on here is from people thinking they're being mean for blocking someone making them uncomfortable.
I really don't know if DNIs are for just preventing uncomfortable exchanges for happening in the first place, or if most people are just egomaniacs who think it's a normal everyday thing to hand of lists of people they don't like talking to.

Being in a filter bubble is better than being constantly exposed to the dark stuff that is on the web. I'm 28 years old, I be been exposed to more of it than most people. I don't want to continue to bring that stuff to me. Plus a dni isnt really a meaningful filter because it doesn't stop this website from showing you that stuff. It just tells people not to interact but it doesn't actually keep people from doing so

Yeah its really odd as your highlighting yourself and isolating yourself by adding a DNI.

True honestly i dont think people read them cuz i personally dont even though i made a dni list at one point with specific groups of people that keep trying to friend me that just make me uncomfortable
Its kind of just common sense that few people on this platform want to interact with homophobes and racists really

honestly i kinda feel them also unnecesary you dont necessary have to put a DNI to what groups you hate, if someone sends you a friend request just block or let the friend request stay up there for as long you want

The irony - that DNI lists are actually bigotry.
Heck, if you have a certain political leaning, you're automatically put under all those labels even if you aren't any of them. You just gotta have a different perspective than someone else these days to be labelled all these things.

I remember being caught off guard when I saw a DNI have Centerist listed in it. But I suppose that just proves people who make DNIs only want to talk to whoever wants to be their yes men. It's still crazy to me being one thing means you're several other things as well.

Yep, sad times we're living in. So many people are so closed off... It's especially noticeable online. I'm thankful to see there are other folks still willing to peek outside the confines of the echo chambers though. So long as people like that continue to exist, there's still hope things can get better. 🤝
