Growing Up On Putnam: The Early Years

Hello, y'all!

Throughout my life up to now, I have lived in 10 places. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. I wonder what it would've been like to live in one house all of my life, like my friends? It sort of felt like the norm to me, to live in many houses in a lifetime. But, apparently it wasn't. I always imagined having that wall with the measurements of my height as I grew...welp, that never happened, haha.

Each house I lived in was for small periods of my life, each had certain memories that went with it, good and bad. Whenever I reminisce about them, I call them by their street names/cities. Whenever I was born until I was 4(I think), I lived on Putnam. That house was so cool, the little memories I have of it.

Putnam is where I had many firsts: pet, Christmas, lost tooth, Easy Bake oven, house taken over by rats(next 2 will be later in life), and etc. As you walk in, you're greeted with the living room. I remember Halloween pictures being taken here and opening my millions of presents on Christmas morning. This was where I was gifted my first pet, a hamster. My uncle(dad's brother) brought me one, not knowing I'm deathly afraid of animals (more on that later). I named the hamster, Sandy, after SpongeBob. She only lived for so long because I never went near it. It became my mom's responsibility to feed it and well she forgot to one day. Saw an ant trail leading to it and welp, Sandy is still buried by the side of that house to this day.

Through one of the walkways straight ahead was the kitchen. In there I remember taking baths in the sink...do people still do that nowadays? Sitting at the dining table eating McDonald's, since we lived near one. <- I remember playing games with the consoles they had there, Tak and the Power of JuJu, remember that? Also, playing with rollie pollies that I collected from outside. I used to roll them up in my coloring book...why? Idek.

From the kitchen was another walkway into the entertainment room. We had a gym set to the right, next to that was a computer, one of them old ones, and the rest to the left were my toys and also a TV. I remember playing with Pudge whenever he was very little and in a swing/sling that was attached to the ceiling. Next through a door, is a sun room. I don't remember too much of that area. It was a room filled with windows and it was all white. I remember going over there and just being amazed at how bright it was. It sort of felt like heaven because it was so bright and white. It later got filled with boxes of things we accumulated over the years.

Going back to the living room, if you take a left there's a hallway with doors to rooms. This part is blurry and I don't remember the specifics. Bill's room was somewhere down the hall and so was my grandma's. In Bill's room, I remember having Hot Cheetos for the first time or so, those are her thing and to this day, too. One of the first rooms, was ours, though. I shared a room with my parents. I had a crib in there but eventually moved to the bed and slept in between them. That was my thing and I'm not even ashamed of it.

In this room, a few memories pop up. I remember calling my dad all the time, whenever he worked out of town. He wasn't there for most of my childhood due to that, but he provided for us, so it was worth it. Looking out the window we had in there, 2 memories pop up: snow day and frogs. I remember it snowing so much one time, like a couple feet of snow. It probably seemed that much because I was little. Watching the forecast and then playing in the snow with my dad, as he placed his coffee on the top of the car. During the summer, I had a pool. One of those hard plastic ones with a slide on it. Throughout the night you'd hear frogs croaking and splashing. My mom used to say they were playing and sliding down it, haha.

I don't have many bad memories here. Probably because I was so young. I do remember one of the first times I got mad at my mom. I was/am very much into art. I remember I wanted to draw/make something. I begged my mom for paints/coloring pencils and apparently we didn't have anything. I stormed to the room crying because how could we not have that. Another memory I have, is bleeding "all over the place" it seemed like, whenever my mom pulled my scab off my knee. I had fallen at school and a scab had formed. She pulled it and we had towel laid on the bed. Well, my knee bled for awhile. I still have that scar to this day. I'll never forget it, yikesss.

Well, that concludes my latest blog about my life. Random memories from my first house I lived in. Sorry for such a drag of posts, but yeah...there's more memories to come from my other houses I lived in. Come back soon!

Until next time,

Zelly :)
