sparkstember 2023 day 6

big beat!!!

we finally get back (beatles reference) to america with this one. i can really hear the "west coast" sound it's so (in?)famously known for. yk out of the albums so far, this one's near the bottom, but it's not that bad! it's still really cool and i like the more rock-y and punky style, it's really pushing what sparks can mean. it definitely seems to have more uh american morals to it if you get what i mean.

faves: screwed up (i like how russell says it like scuhrewed up) (and also i like how it says the 70s are present day), i like girls (big beat more like bi beat), big boy (i like the repetition), everybody's stupid (because we really are), fill-er-up (desperate russell makes me giggle), i bought the mississippi river, but really all of them are good (including the ones on the 21st century edition, we know i'm gonna listen to that one by now). but uh. wtf was going on with white women lmfaooo. it's really good but boy is russ angry on this one (so is ron probably)!! the i wanna hold your hand cover is beautiful and it is soooooo 70s in usamerica with the orchestrations and the swinging. there was one song with really cool syncopation, i think it was throw her away (and get a new one) idk.

in terms of the cover, it may have seemed impossible after indiscreet, but all i see on this cover is a couple of SLUTS! (i always say slut with the highest amount of appreciation and love). russell is shirtles!!!! wow! and ron... he's working that side profile... i love him. russell just has so much hair got dang. i like how the main colors for each of them are mixed up, so it's not like white next to white yk. the dark gray of russell's hair, with the gray of ron's face and shiny hair, then gray of russell's body next to ron's white shirt, then russell's white pants next to ron's black pants. very fun, a nice aesthetic touch.
