Arguments about Rio

hi

the argument about Rio 2, the movie about those blue birds, is that Jewel, the main character Blu's wife, is a horrible person, or bird.

here are the two sides of the argument:

IN AGREEMENT

It is argued that she is bad because once she is reunited with her family, she completely ignores the needs of her husband. her husband, Blue, is said by many to have anxiety, and she starts to leave him to deal with being ignored and feeling like he is no longer a part of the family. this is seen when there is a dance between all the blue birds that were all her family, with Jewel in the middle, seeming to enjoy herself the most, while Blu is being pushed out of the way and unable to be included in this family. As well as this, there comes a scene where Jewel and Blue talk about the situation they are in now, and Jewel is so happy, leading her to tell Blu that 'everything changed' (this is not an accurate quotation). this results in Blu feeling panicked, as he has anxiety, because he is not able to deal with change as well as the average bird.

IN DISAGREEMENT

Jewel is now in a situation where she is finally reunited with her family that she loves so much, the family that raised her. so, when she finally sees them again, of course she will be excited and extremely happy. when she was separated by her family, Blue would constantly show a lack of awareness on her culture, placing that into his children as well. whitewashed blue made whitewashed babies. and now he has the nerve to hint at Jewel that he wants to go home, as if the forest they are in was never Jewels' home, and that it does not mean much at all. Blu is extremely selfish towards the beginning as he fails to see the importance of the people to Jewel.

the example stated before of Jewel failing to meet his needs in the dance scene? that is entirely Blu's fault. Maybe all of those birds weren't pushing him away. maybe he was just trying to make the situation about him and didn't put enough effort into joining, or even allow his wife to celebrate being reunited with her family. just because he doesn't remember his old family does not mean that Jewel cannot miss hers. she literally had no one at all, and Blu had a white woman (not a bad thing) to raise and love him. Jewel had the love ripped away from her and she was left to be all alone. and Blu's reaction when Jewel says everything changed is not fair. Once again, he is making it all about himself. She literally has her family back, and her culture back, so she finally feels like she has a part of herself with her and around her. Blu literally whitewashed all of her children and failed to understand that maybe his wife would want to share her culture with her children.

Another point I'd like to add is that Blu should not be repulsed by the every day acts of those in Jewel's family, he should be happy to learn, its literally a part of his lover's life. And why is it he feels so sad that for once Jewel is truly happy to be where she is, and he is upset that he is not there getting spoon fed by her. she tries hard for him, and the moment she does something fir not only herself, but also her children, he is upset, because that's not what its like at home. he finds it abnormal when his wife and children don't act white enough or domesticated enough, for example complaining to his friends when she eats a bug- normal in he old life, as she is a bird.

Can Jewel really have nothing? of course, if her husband has anxiety then it should be dealt with, but she cannot be a bad person for prioritising herself for once. his anxiety is not for her to change for. Blu must deal with it, and while he can have help, he should definitely never expect his wife to constantly be by his side, making her be the one to deal with her anxiety. it isn't fair to her.

She is not just "Blu's Mate", she is Jewel. she is the woman that lost her family and her culture, she is a daughter and she feels love for all these things.

She is Blu's wife, but we fail to accept that Blu is Jewel's husband too.

Care for each other, and if your problems come in the way of that, you try your best to fix it. never depend on someone else to deal with you.

okay I've finished thinking for now, thank you for being here!!
