If you mean youre kind of socially inept (its normal)
First introduce yourself, usually this comes in the form of a hello and why you think they are interesting, be it because you see something interesting in them, what they are doing/did, or they share a common interest/opinion with you. If they reciprocate interest and a discussion takes place you now have a conversation.
If you're stuck trying to find an interesting topic, this is where you try small talk, the act of discussing small things of minor interest or popular news or trivia. Usually you only do this to fill the air or until you can find something you both find mutually interesting.
Click on Messages. It will take you to the sites dedicated messenger. On the left hand side you should see a gray button that says "Start a new chat", click it. Once you do that it will take you to another page with a list of people you have as friends. Click on which friend you want to chat with. It will take you back to messenger and you will be able to now send messages to person you selected.
